Ole Miss game in 1995. My wife (Ole Miss alum) and I had been married for exactly two weeks, and I still had some friends who were students at LSU. I recieved two tickets in the student section, and off we went. Ole Miss scored first, and my wife started talking trash. I kept telling her that wasn't a good idea, but due to a prior relationship with an LSU boyfriend, she still had an axe to grind. I'm not sure of the final score, but I believe it was 38-7 when all was said and done. Kevin Faulk had a big game, and ran a kick back for a score. But by far the biggest play of the game was on that kick return, one of the Tigers absolutely JACKED UP a would be tackler right in front of the student section. I mean de-cleated the guy. By this time, it was so cold, and my wife was absolutely MISERABLE, for as you can imagine, the student section had not forgotten her big mouth at the beginning. At that time, I thought I would be lucky to still be married when we got home! The next year, she got us tickets to the game in Oxford with HER friends in THEIR student section. Close game at the half with LSU leading 5-3 with a safety. We recieved the opening kickoff to start the second half and returned it for a touchdown. I kid you not, the stadium emptied! I was appalled, and starting talking a little trash myself. She tried to tell me that the Ole Miss fans were just heading to the Grove to party, but I told her real fans would never abandon their team with that much time left and only down 9 points. Turns out we killed 'em. She vowed that we would never attend another Ole Miss-LSU game, for the sake of our marriage. We're still married today, and she now watches LSU games with me, rooting for the Tigers, and this year, I finally got her back in TS for the Fresno game. Actually it was HER anniversary gift to ME. It was pouring down rain as you may recall, and I advised that we just stay in the truck until gametime. She said "No way. I want to see the band come down the hill". At that moment, I knew I had married the right girl!:geauxtige
Yeah, bro....Ole Miss this year was both of my kids' first LSU game. They couldn't believe it. I think it solidified the fact that I'm breeding 2 lifetime LSU fans!
This is an awesome thread. Don't let it die while talking about the Jimbo rumors. This is a great thread to pass the time while we await the Sugar Bowl, or if you insist, await Jimbo's move to FSU, UAB, WV, La Tech, Atlanta Falcons, etc...
My fav too, but I was in the South Upper at the time and couldn't get down to the field, at least not without breaking my legs. I actually shed a tear while watching the goal posts come down. Anyway, I found that all my beer had been stolen when we got back to our tailgate. We bought another case and spent an hour driving around Sherwood Forest honking the horn.
The cops did in fact catch the guys that chose to fly the Moon over the tide. I was sitting about four rows up from the field in the South End Zone for that game. Alabama was driving towards us and we watched the two kids run all the way down the field and drop the moon during the TV Time Out. If you missed the cop chase then you missed the best part. One of the guys was snagged pretty quickly but his buddy juked a deputy out of his shorts and he busted his rear end in the middle of the field. Another deputy jumped in and managed to secure the evil mooner and passed him to his embarrassed co-worker to escort off the field. The three of them walked right past us. The less than nimble deputy was holding the kid under the arm and giving him a lecture while the other deputy trailed behind giggling at his buddy's game highlight. You couldn't help but laugh. Although the Earthquake game is still the moment in Tiger Stadium that will always give me goosebumps, this has to be up in my top 10-15.
You weren't the only one. One of the goal posts landed on a dude's head. Sorry about that...we were really thirsty. :hihi:
1997 Florida was memorable, beating the #1-ranked, undefeated defending national champions. The crowd took the field for the first time anyine could remember and the goal posts came down for the first time in Tiger stadium. My seats are pretty high up, so we just pored another drink and stood there watching for about 30 minutes after the game. The field was covered and the cops couldn't do anything about it. People were tearing up strips of turf for souvenirs. They lifted the fallen goalposts and carried them around the field. One of the goalposts was broken into two pieces and one group was carrying it up the steps to throw it over the top of the stadium! Luckily a few cops hustled up there and made them drop it.
This is about the earthquake game, but it's an obscure moment that Red just reminded me of with his last post. The earthquake game was the best game I've ever attended, and the ending was awesome. I'll never forget Fuller DROPPING the 3rd down pass, and of course redeeming himself on the next play. But the best moment in Tiger Stadium that night was that we just couldn't leave! I don't know how long we stayed in the Stadium after the game, but it seemed like hours! I wasn't at the UF game in '97, but I can't imagine it being that exciting. 6-0 for the entire game, then at the last second, BAM. 7-6...EARTHQUAKE!
2003 Auburn game when we returned the favor by beating them 31-7. Held Cadiliac Williams to under 100 yards rushing. What made it even more special is that I was sitting right in front of Scotty McClain. He was a letterman on the national title team. He showed me his ring which was a far cry from what they give out now. It was all gold and the sides were worn. Another one of my favorite was in 2005 against Auburn. i had to run the Lsu balls on the Auburn sidelines. It was there that I recieved tubby's death stare.
wow..the Ole Miss game this year seems to be the Game of Choice for taking their kids for the first time...my daughter had the time of her life.
