No offense meant. Chet Atkins is a legend and I couldn't find anything older since The Rag was written before the 30's? I get that others hate the TMB song repetoire. Having been raised on it, it's music to my ears.
I go to check out the Favorite LSU Song Thread and I'm reminded of rockytop. Thanks. Here is a preview of the ODJB version of Tiger Rag. ODJB Tiger Rag Intro.
I've heard it's universally despised and yet it's not even the official fight song. Found this: The Pride of the Southland Marching Band debuted it at a football game in 1972; antennae across the state twitched in primal recognition at the mention of moonshine, and the rest is history. Leave it to an SEC school to abandon the perfectly proper "Down the Field" and adopt an ode to murder and grain alcohol as its anthem. -- Holly Anderson And for fun, this: http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/006646.php
That march is SOOOOOO BOMBASTIC.... ...but your band must really know it well as much as they play it.... :hihi: :hihi:
Technically none of the songs listed in this thread are our fight song either. If there were a list for best college songs in general Pregame would have to be on it somewhere. I think most people think of The Pregame Salute as more of a tradition\event rather than a song. I can agree with this list since they are talking about only fight songs. Our fight song isn't as well known as any of those.
I agree. The band knows it well. Just some background......not like you asked. "CONQUEST" Another famous USC song is the regal processional march, "Conquest," by Alfred Newman. It is usually played after every USC score and victory. This stirring battle cry, from Newman's score to the 1947 motion picture classic "Captain from Castile," has become synonymous with the championship tradition of USC since the Trojans adopted it in 1954 during a basketball game against Oregon State. Newman, a legendary composer of film music, was the musical director of Twentieth Century-Fox Studios. Other Songs “Tribute To Troy,” the incessant stanza of pounding drums and blaring horns, is played after every defensive stop. “Fanfare” is the introduction to “Tribute To Troy” and is played when the band takes the field. “All Right Now” is played after USC gets a turnover. “Another One Bites the Dust” is played after USC gets a sack. The “William Tell Overture” is played at the start of the fourth quarter. "The Emperor's Theme" from Star Wars is played when USC is flagged for a major penalty. Some of this is outdated a bit. I haven't heard the William Tell in a few years to say the least nor Bites the Dust.
