    From "Closing Time" (Semisonic?)

"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

There are many more; I'll have to think of some.

    When I say

This way is a waterslide away from me that takes you further every day

    So be cool

    electrical storm by u2 -

Car alarm won’t let you back to sleep
You’re kept awake dreaming someone else’s dream
Coffee’s cold but it’ll get you through
Compromise, that’s nothing new to you
Let’s see colours that have never been seen
Let’s go to places no one else has been

You’re in my mind all of the time
    I know that’s not enough
Well, if the sky can crack there must be some way back
    To love and only love

rough and ready by trace adkins -

    Cold beer, hot wings
    Wranglers, Skoal ring
    Get just what you see
    Gun rack, ball cap
    Don't take no crap
    Ain't a pretty boy-toy
    I'll rock you steady
    Rough and ready

Seriously sappy but when red mentioned Bread in another thread, this song immediately came to mind. Brutal.

I found her diary underneath a tree
    And started reading about me
The words she'd written took me by surprise
You'd never read them in her eyes
They said that she had found, the love she'd waited for
Wouldn't you know it... she wouldn't show it.

Then she, confronted with the writing there
    Simply pretended not to care
I passed it off as just in keeping with
    Her total disconcerting air
And though she tried to hide, the love that she denied
Wouldn't you know it... she wouldn't show it.

And as I go through my life
I will give to her my wife
All the sweet things I can find

I found her diary underneath a tree
    And started reading about me
The words began to stick and tears to flow
Her meaning now was clear to see
The love she'd waited for, was someone else not me
Wouldn't you know it... she wouldn't show it.

And as I go through my life
I will wish for her his wife
All the sweet things she can find
All the sweet things they can find.

Give It A Name by At the Drive-In
    never thought
    this day would come
    you threw the bricks
    that built this wall
amantillado! at the top of your lungs
    i can't hear you anymore
so take your diamond bland shaped tears
and maybe i'll see you in twenty years

    Watchdog by Dynamite boy
I can't take much more of this
    the coffee-maker's full of piss
these people treat me like a dog
and all I do is write this song

Unrest in the House of Light by the Protomen

There was another who came before you
He was a hero and your brother and my son.
He fought the darkness, the darkness won.

    We Will Become Silhouettes
    by the Postal Service
    I stay indoors
Because the air outside will make our cells
Divide at an alarming rate until our shells
Simply cannot hold all our insides in,
    And that's when we'll explode
(and it won't be a pretty sight)

    Nas-Lost Tapes-Doo Rags

Political thugs in shark suits persuade us to pull triggers
in army boots, yellin "Join the armed forces!"
We lost the Vietnam War, intoxicated poisons
Needles in arms of veterans instead of bigger fortunes
There's still a lot of nigga callin in the corporate offices
War in the ghetto, we crabs in a barrel, they torture us
They won't be servin the beast too long
The murderers wearin police uniforms, confederate flags I burn
Beat Street breakers were dancin to the music I chose
And Peachtree Atlantic crackheads was tootin they nose
in frozen corners of Chicago, loaded up Llama's children
    with fo'-fo's, and double-revolvers
We devil incarnates, headed for jail
Where Shell gas company in South Africa be havin us killed
Your paper money was the death of Christ
And all these shorties comin up just resurrect your life
    It's like a cycle

    Common-6th Sense

In front of two-inch glass and Arabs I order fries
Inspiration when I write, I see my daughter's eyes
I'm the truth, across the table from corporate lies
Immortilized by the realness I bring to it
If revolution had a movie I'd be theme music
My music, you either fight, ****, or dream to it
My life is one big rhyme, I try to scheme through it
Through my shell, never knew what the divine would bring to it
I'd be lying if I said I didn't want millions
More than money saved, I wanna save children
    Dealing with alcoholism and afrocentricity
A complex man drawn off of simplicity
    Reality is frisking me
This industry will make you lose intensity
The Common Sense in me remembers the basement
I'm Morpheus in this hip-hop Matrix, exposing fake ****

"Cry in the Sun" Better Than Ezra

    "You cleaned out your room/
    And under your bed/
    Lay a picture long forgotten/
With a hand to your head/
    You sigh out loud/
    As a memory rushes over/
    And buries you."

    "For everyone/
    There's a person, place, or time/
That brings you back and makes you feel alive."

    "Forgiven" Alanis Morrisette

    "What I learned I rejected/
    But I believe again/
I have suffered the consequence of this inquisition/
If I jump in this fountain/
    Will I be forgiven?"

I blew out my flip flop,
    Stepped on a pop top,
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
    And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.
