Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? A lot of times, the best at doing things are the worst teachers. For example, Tiger Wooods would probably make the worst golf instructor ever. It's like the old saying, 'Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.'
Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? Have to chime in here on the Tiger Woods comment. I'm a golf instructor,(and a damn good one at that!) and although Woods wouldn't have the patience necessary to work with high handicappers for very long I'm sure he would be able to help any golfer of whatever skill level if that was his job. My point? Jerry Rice may make a few organizational/misc. mistakes a more veteran coach would not make but the receivers and the organization would definitely benefit from him coaching wr's. my two cents. LSU!
Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? Not necessarily, especially since in this case, he'd be a positional coach. I could definitely see him help out with technique and whatnot. Now, if he had anything to do with playcalling and whatnot...then I'd be skeptical about his abilities.
Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? umm no, it stinks of mike s. reporting. there's another board full of dd bashers, please don't turn this one into one as well. if it's not on dd's website (which it isn't) then he didn't report it. very simple. very simple.
Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? I absolutely agree in Jerry's case. He was never a dominant reviever based soley on physical abilities (i.e. Terrell Owens and Randy Moss), he was dominant because he worked his arse off in practice. This means that not only did he seem to get better as the game went on, but he ran picture perfect routes and really developed a "connection" with his QB's. I once read somewhere that no matter when their season ended, Jerry Rice would show up at the practice facilites the next day so he could stay in shape for the off season and work on his routes. That is an absolutely amazing attribute for any player to have and it is exactly the attribute you would want in a positions coach.
Re: Jerry Rice might be our WRs coach? Definitely sounds too good to be true, but it would be nice. I know being a great athlete doesn't make you a great coach but being the greatest reciever ever with the best work ethic of any pro athlete ever is a damn big plus. I think Miles and Crowton could fill in the missing blanks for him if any help is needed until he gets the hang of coaching. If Rice was interested I say hire him immediately, no doubt the recievers would be in line outside the athletics office waiting to sign up.
