Finebaum is based out of Birmingham. So, I've listened to the guy numerous times, and he is a hate-filled egomaniac.
Like we should give a crap about what a poll says. If you ask me, I say Les Miles 100 times. I wouldn't trade Miles for any coach in the SEC. This article is crap. The run that the football team is currently on is unprecedented, LSU's record from 2003-2006 is 44-8. Les Miles: 22-4 (11-2 twice) Nick Saban: 22-4 (13-1; 9-3)* As for where the talent came from, I'd say the roster is just as stocked with incoming talent (Miles is 3-3 when it comes to solid recruiting hauls) as it is outgoing. Miles will win a title at LSU before he leaves. edit-data was compiled at 1 am and subject to error, please correct if so.
I don't know if I would go as far as "hate-filled egomaniac." No doubt, he's one with an ego. Interestingly enough, his MO right now is a lot like it was when fRan was hired. With the exception he crossed fRan one time and lost a lot of the air-time he could have had... He does know what side his bread is buttered on. When I saw the C&P of this article on another site (avoid logging on to al.com at all cost) my first thought was, "he's trying to get the two fan bases even more riled up, and he might succeed." I'll give him this, the man has a knack for writing. While I find most of his stuff off base, occasionally he'll pen an article worth reading. "Occasionally." My biggest complaint about PF is his radio show. I know he picks and chooses who he's going to air and does so without a lick of respect towards his listening base. It's one thing to carry on a debate with your callers and it's another thing to purposefully try and humiliate them/make fun of them. That being said, occasionally he'll have a good interview on as well. I guess this goes to show that some actually graduate from UT with the ability to put together a sentence. Oh wait, he's not an athlete. Stars, FWIW, his radio show is based out of B-ham, he writes for the Mobile paper.
This appears to be a simple case of jealousy. The more Finebaum talks about LSU and Miles, the more we see how he really wishes his own team was like ours. I think its really obvious. Well, I don't blame him I mean we have beaten them 4 straight years with LSU having 3 BCS Bowl wins the past 6 years. And it doens't look like we're gonna stop either. Lose 4 in the 1st round? and we're still dark-horses for the national championship and favorites to win the SEC. Thats so much more comforting than where Bama is, so now i see why he is bitter all the time...
He's a UT grad. Fan of a particular school? I somehow doubt that, but if any it's that school in Knoxville. When Alabama is doing well, he's doing well with his readership. Like many other papers in the print media, the readership/subscriptions is bottoming out. A good reason NOT to click on al.com. :thumb:
I wish the football fans, in general, would recognize that......course, long as Miles keeps getting it done, who gives a chit what others think. I remember SabanFan saying Miles is winning more games with Saban's recruits than Saban did. :hihi:
When other coaches go to a new place and have success with other coaches recruits they are considered a great coach (Bob Stoops comes to mind). When Les Miles does it, he is just carrying the torch for someone else. Starting this year, people are going to have to eat their words a bit. The majority of our starters are going to be Miles recruits and certainly the majority of skill positions. He has had multiple solid, recruiting classes and our talent certainly has not gone down since Saban left. In addition, those players who were recruited by Saban were all very young when he was still here. Anyone remember how Jamarcus looked in 2004? Not very good. The development of many of these players (most of whom were Freshman when Saban was here) took place on coach Miles' time, not on Saban's. Notwithstanding the fact that if anything the defense is just as good if not better without the supposed 'defensive guru' that is Nick Saban. Last time I checked, Bo Pellini could coach some D as well. Perhaps the most important factor which is unfortunately never mentioned is that, I believe, Miles is a much better person than Saban is. I think that is going to pay off in recruiting and with the hiring and development of quality assistant coaches in the long run, and that Saban's lies and propensity for treating his staff poorly will catch up to him. I believe in Karma and that eventually, what comes around goes around. As least the local media and honks have caught on and are giving Coach Miles his due. What some jackass in AL may think is not that important in the great scheme of things. I just want to make sure that Miles knows he is appreciated here at LSU. We landed squarely on our feet after Saban left, and I really hope that Tiger fans know what we have while we have it. Here's to hoping that Coach Miles is wearing the purple and gold for a very long time to come!
