News said pressure cooker and circuit board pieces found along with nails fragments and bb's. That is an mo of the Pakistani and afghans.
the Louisiana bomb expert they had on local radio said that anybody could find directions to make bombs like that on the internet here's another source: At least one bomb and possibly both were built using pressure cookers as the superstructure, black powder or gunpowder as the explosive and ball bearings as additional shrapnel, according to current and former counterterrorism officials briefed on the matter. The sources, who asked not to be identified, said instructions on how to design such bombs are available on the internet. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/16/us-usa-explosions-boston-idUSBRE93F06T20130416
being that Massachusetts (and Maine, which was once part of Massachusetts) are the only states that celebrate Patriot's Day, it's not a day that has national relevance (i'd never heard of it before) the Boston Marathon, on the other hand, that's something that everybody in America has heard of, it's a big deal it's like the guy who bombed the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta killing 2 people and injured about 150 others, i'd think the main reason he bombed that was because it was such a high-profile event, like the Boston Marathon is a high-profile event like that article i linked right above this pointed out, the bomb used at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta was very similar to the ones used in Boston: "Trauma surgeons at several Boston hospitals told reporters a number of victims had metallic shrapnel material removed during surgery, including pellets and what appeared to be nails, which would make the device reminiscent of the 1996 bombing at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, which killed two people and injured about 150 others. Anti-abortion activist Eric Rudolph, who eluded capture for years, pleaded guilty to that attack and is serving consecutive life sentences." as for the guy behind that bombing in Atlanta, he was a born-and-raised American who said he did it because: "the purpose of the attack on July 27th (1996 at the Olympics in Atlanta) was to confound, anger and embarrass the Washington government in the eyes of the world for its abominable sanctioning of abortion on demand" this is what he looks like:
Could also be someone that spent time on tours there that became familiar with the construction of IEDs.
Was listening to man on radio. It's been confirmed that Boston pd had bomb sniffing dogs at start and finish of race. They even announced to the runners that it was a drill so they wouldn't be nervous. Think maybe they had information prior to the race and were trying to do a search without alarming anyone?
That's what I don't understand. Why didn't the dogs find them before they exploded? Or, were they left there after the dogs had performed their cursory search? If they were left after the dogs performed their search, it seems like someone would have noticed an oversized backpack left unattended. Wouldn't that seem out of place? Maybe not. I don't know.
This kind of bomb is everywhere and not new. Country boys make them for fun and blow them up out in the sticks all of the time. And I mean boys, to them it's just illegal fireworks. I witnessed several homemade bombs as a teenager, they blew up an old shack with one of them. This was decades before the internet and it ain't rocket science. Your 12-year old can probably tell you how to make a pipe bomb. They can make them out of soda bottles with stuff they find anywhere. All it takes is the will to make one and set it off. Most of us wanted to keep our eyes and fingers and were too prudent to mess with the stuff, but we all knew someone who had a homemade M-80 and cherry bomb operation. All it takes is an angry zealot or lunatic to scale up the simple fireworks into simple bombs and set them off in public to kill instead of out in the sticks for kicks.
This was asked to a police official on TV. He said that in a crowd such as this every third person has a backpack or shoulder bag with water, rain jackets, and iPads inside. Where there are children, diaper bags will be carried by parents. In urban areas where people walk to the store, they routinely carry big canvas shopping bags for their groceries. And when people stand waiting for an event, they will put the heavy bag on the ground. So bags on the ground around standing people is so common that it is impossible to notice when someone leaves it in a crowd and walks away. As for dog searches, it depends on how many dogs and how many people. A dog has to put his nose on the bag to smell the explosives. They can't just pick up a scent from blocks away and track it. It is improbable that any city has enough bomb-sniffing dogs to sniff every bag in crowd of tens of thousands. Some clever person must invent a cheap sensor that can pick up the smell of explosives in a dense crowd from 100 feet away for the police to ever have a tool that could pre-empt plots like this. And it would pick up the weapons of all the policemen at the same event as to make it difficult to isolate a bomb. It could probably be spoofed by clever perps, too. Still, they are going to have to develop new tools and policies to combat this. I wonder who is already working on such devices. I wonder if they are on NASDAQ . . .
