...During the Battle of the Wilderness (Civil War, Virginia), a former Auburn student was left for dead on the battlefield. After regaining consciousness, he stumbled accross the battlefield & came upon an injured eagle who he decided to nurse back to health & keep as a pet. He returned to Auburn with the bird and became a familiar sight all around campus & @ local events. During the Deep South's first football game (Auburn vs. Georgia, 1892), the eagle-called War Eagle bc of the circumstances under which he was found- broke free from it's cage and circled the field. After exciting fans & watching Auburn roll to a 10-0 win, the eagle fell to the ground and died...Since then there have been seven other birds who have become a part of Auburn tradition; War Eagle II, III, IV, V, and current birds War Eagle VI (Tiger), War Eagle VII (Nova), and Spirit. These birds are housed at the Southeastern Raptor Center in Auburn, and belong to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service....In 2002, Tiger captured the hearts of billions as she flew during the Olympic opening ceremonies in Salt Lake City. In January of 2006, Tiger was inducted into the Alabama Animal Hall of Fame. Not long after, she was diagnosed with skin cancer. Tiger will be retired November 11th, 2006, after the Georgia game. Nova and Spirit will carry on her legacy and pregame flights which are the most spectacular traditions in all of college sports..."War Eagle" is NOT a mascot. It is a battlecry and for those associated with Auburn University, "War Eagle" is more. It is an important part of our society that binds the Auburn family together. "War Eagle" is a hello, goodbye, a battlecry, and a way of life. The eagles are icons of it, living embodiments of the Auburn spirit.
Thank you Tiger for an unforgettable twenty years, War Eagle!

Caught this image of a "Mullet 4" Life in a country bar in Simmesport. We have friends originally from Simmesport who wanted to show us around "town." We headed back to the casino after observing this mullet in his native habitat.

This is the helmet worn by the team I somehow continue to pull for. It used to represent pride, tradition, and some damn good football teams. Notice the script on the helmets? I guess that is to let people know who they are now representing. The helmets used to have a cartoon type figure of an ole col. leaning on his cane. This figure was originally taken to represent a black gentleman who loved that university. How it got deemed "racist" is anyone's guess. The "col reb" that used to lead the cheers actually wore a confederate uniform complete with sash and officer's hat and carried a sword. Didn't take too long to see that pass on. Then we got the big "col" who walked the field, actually kicked field goals, and played with the kids. Apparently, he was too "macho" for he was removed. He must have had the kids in terror. He was like "Mike." Friendly, stopping for pictures, and all. Must have been a child abuser or something. The "fight song" DIXIE has for all purposes been eliminated. The flags have changed. DANGEROUS OBJECTS!!!!!!!!!! But they are not "DANGEROUS" if they are blue with the "M" on it. Just when they have the ole flag. Col. Reb can no longer walk the sidelines. I GUESS IT SCARED TOO MANY PEOPLE. Some of you may even remember when Billy Cannon made history, OM wore a "sky blue" colored helmet. I have almost gotten to the point where I think the uniforms should be black helmets, jersey, and togs. WITH A YELLOW STREAK DOWN THE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COL REB, I think it is time for you to officially come over to us my friend. Johnny Vaught isn't returning, the flag and mascot aren't coming back, and Archie and even Eli are gone. The only thing that remains is the name and pretty soon some group will find fault with that. I can see it now......"AARP asks NCAA to ban 'OLE' because it is insulting to seniors".

The sun is quickly setting on the grove and all that Ole Miss fans find sacred. It truly is sad, but there is always room for 1 more TIGER!

Thanks.......better jump the price on tickets again...........sooner or later--PETA will complain about a live tiger being kept in captivity.....no matter how fine the quarters are......it's not the "Jungle" and he doesn't have "freedom to pursue" the female tiger. He is paraded before 95k people and encouraged to "roar." Ain't that a shame?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:geauxtige
