I think it really comes down to everyone's unrealistic expectations. Lee does not always crumble under pressure. JJ does not always tuck and run. JJ does throw good passes a good percentage of the time ... Lee also throws good passes. JJ isn't a sure bet to gain yards on busted plays .. (see safety). Lee doesn't always have lead feet .. (see his first down run) Both JJ and Lee are good leaders of the team most of the time. When they're hot they're hot ... when their not they're not. I think the biggest issue with JJ and Lee, is the coaches perception of what they can and can't do, which is reflected in their limited play calling for each QB. They could have broke open the game with Bama with Lee if they'd called different plays. Likewise with JJ. I think this last game was used to prove to themselves that they could run pass plays with JJ and run option and run plays with Lee. It's all good ... let's just win out and bring home the :crystal:
This isn't a job, hoss. No pay and no respect. I'm just helping out BRETT at his request. I'll walk away without a care in the world.
Yep! Coaches know that the dump-off guys have to be just forward enough of the QB to be in his peripheral field of vision; the guy to the side opposite his throwing arm will usually be the one! (Only because the QB doesn't have to turn & set for the offhand throw). Practice X3. JL should have had many more snaps in this game to get him solid once more.
I agree RW .. safety valves ... Bama used it all night long .. heck, the've used it all season long. But I think both you and I know what is happening. CLM has been looking for the opportunity to move JJ back to Starter. Even though JJ didn't burn the field up against Bama, it was enough for him to use the Bama game as the excuse to do just that. JJ will be the starter from here on out. Even if Lee comes in and saves the AR game, saves the GA game, saves the NC .. it will go down in the record books that JJ was the starter, that it was JJ's game. JLee will not be given the same consideration as JJ. POINT ... this is not about JJ .. and it's not about JLee .. it is about CLM playing favorites, and treating the two players unequally. I HOPE I"M WRONG ... but ... I don't think I am.
If Les was dead set on starting his golden boy and use Lee's poor performance as an excuse to do so, he would've done that a month ago after the Kentucky game. He's stated several times that we will continue to use a dual-QB system based on game situations, with the starter determined by schemes and matchups. I see no reason at this point to not take him at his word.
Back to the topic... per today's press conference CLM stated unequivocally that JL *not* starting had *nothing whatsoever* to do with it being a disciplinary action.
Yes .. back to the topic. It goes like this. Last year with the roles reversed, we lost a lot of games we should have won. ... specifically, Arkansas. This year, we've not only won every game we should've won, but we've done it with style. The only exception was Bama, and in that case, the use of JJ was appropriate. So .. that is why Lee is better. Regarding the AR game, someone said, we lost last year because AR put up 3 TDs in like 8 min or something, notching out some 200 yards. ... in essense, blaming it on the defense. I couner that argument by saying, that if we'da had a fricken offense that could have turned around and scored, tit for tat ... it wouldn't have mattered how many points AR put up in the last 1/2 of the game. This year, with Lee starting and Jefferson running interference, we have that capability. Again .. that is why Lee is better in this role.
