I don't know about you guys, but my spring semester starts January 5th. Not all schools are out until late January.
You guys are making it more difficult than it needs to be. All we need to do is take the Rose Bowl winner and Sugar Bowl winner and play a champinship game on Jan. 11 Simple as pie
That may work THIS year, but what if there were another one loss team that emerged from the Fiesta or Orange Bowls? We need something that fixes it EVERY year
The problem won't be fixed until the NCAA steps in and sanctions a college football playoff system, like they do for every other college sport! If the NCAA does not recognize the event, we will always have the "Mythical" in MNC...
Eight teams is too much. Look, at the end of the year, there are usually only 3 teams, maybe 4, that DESERVE to play for the championship. Like this year, you would match up the winner of the Rose and Sugar. If you do the 8 teams, does someone like Florida State, Kansas State, or Miami deserve to play for the title. NO. Keep it simple.
Using that philosophy, why do we have 64 teams in the basketball and baseball playoffs? We can make an argument that less than 10 probably deserve to play for the championship. An 8 team playoff would generate so much more money than a 4 team playoff ... just like the other sports!
If i am not mistaken they said somethign about a "Martin Luther King Bowl on PTI a few days ago.......good idea to me......that way we are the undisputed champs.....
You're talking about college kids. Football is different from BB. You need a week between games to recover and prepare for the next game. They are already playing 12 or 13 games. You're going to add more by having a extended playoff system. You are risking injuries to players going into the NFL draft, what for more $$ for the networks? Teams have proven week end and week out over the course of the season their worth. When the season is all said and done, I stick with what I said earlier, there are only going to be about 3 or 4 teams that are head and shoulder above the rest that deserve to play for the National Championship. Maybe an 8 team playoff system, but not 16. I would prefer 4. Just my opinion.
I guess Div 1-AA, II and III aren't college kids? And yes, many of these kids get an opportunity in the NFL. IMO, extending the season is probably the weakest argument against a playoff. We extended the season for a conference championship game. We extended the season by on game the last couple of years because the planets were aligned properly and had more Saturdays during the fall. Out of 117 D-1A teams, we are extending the season for 8 teams ... they will start out with a 4 team playoff, but I'm certain it will quickly expand to 8. It'll be too much money to pass up...
