I was in school when they filmed that movie. They paid me $50.00 per night to sit in Tiger Stadium and be part of the crowd. All we had to do was cheer when they said cheer. We were allowed to bring in ice chest and drink plenty of beer. It was fun.
one of my favorites too, I have it on vhs but haven't found it on dvd yet. my sister and her best friend were both attending LSU and were production assistants for the movie, whatever that means. her best friend actually was "seeing" Quaid at the time of the movie.
They filmed it the year before I went to LSU. Every time it's on a movie channel, I have to watch it, because I love seeing all of the scenes of LSU.
I was there too. I remember after the season, somebody blamed that movie for costing us a Nat'l Championship. Apparantly, we used up all of cheering during the filming and didn't have enough left for the game.:dis: Nevermind that loss to Miami (ohio) earlier in the year.
I was a freshman in Tiger Band when the movie was filmed and we were paid to be in a pep rally scene at the state capital. I remember that it snowed the night the scene was originally supposed to be shot and the director rescheduled it because he thought no one would believe that it snowed in south Louisiana! I also remember that they put all of the female and minority band members on the inside of the ranks, where the cameras were less likely to pick them up, because they said there were no girls or minorities in the band back in the early fifties. And just for the record, that movie is NOT "old"!
From what I remember the movie was loosely based on Cannon's career. For some reason they could not use Cannon's name. My wife (a Bama fan) watched it for the first time last year and fell in love with the movie. I thought Goodman actually went to LSU. I know I see pics of him all the time wearing LSU stuff. :geauxtige Wade
Try deepdiscountdvd.com. They have just about everything you could imagine on DVD. Very good prices too. No shipping costs.
Actually, the movie was based on a novel by Frank Deford about a North Carolina player. UNC didn't want to have the filming there, so the producers moved the whole story to South Louisiana. Billy Cannon thought about suing, but the film was too far off his life story to have a case. (Remember, Dennis Quaid doesn't become a counterfeiter.) I was in Tiger Band at the time and we had to pretend that the school was Louisiana University. I am in the opening scenes--I remember filming all night. Good Memories. No, it wasn't that long ago.
