right, but atheism is a non-claim.

the christian who says the atheist needs to disprove god needs to understand that the atheists feels the same way about christianinty that the christian feels about roman mythology. i do not go around asking people to disprove roman myths.

is it smart to believe the roman myths are true until you have investigated it thoroughly and disproved them? belief should not be the starting point. belief should develop from knowlede, not the other way around. i would not be smart to start by believing every possible thing in the universe and the eliminate them one by one. there is a quicker way to separate the real from the possible.

Yes, you are correct. I also don't know any other atheists who wouldn't accept the possibility of a god-type figure. We are just comfortable accepting that we don't know.

bill o'reilly regularly exploits this misunderstanding of atheism.

he will say something like "since neither of us can prove we are right, i will go with catholicism". as if somehow two unprovables are equally possible, might as well just choose either one. his atheist guest will usually droop his head in disappointment at this point.

this is why i think the spaghetti monster example is effective for showing that all ideas are not equally valid simply for being ideas as yet not disproven. but for some reason people do not connect the dots.

Why don't you find out for yourself since you claim its a fairy tale.
This conversation works both ways and I'm not going to play cat and mouse or be on the defensive forever.
Nope, Anything I say or present as evidence will be overlooked because I'm Christian.
If anyone is really interested or curious they should find out on their own.
Now who is making the ground rules here?
I really would hope that you will discover the truth one day whatever that may be I'm not playing games nor do I have the time and patience too.
Religion means many different things to different people.
I'm not sure if you are talking christian or all religions.
You and I would actually agree on 99% of the worlds religions.
Religion, politics and atheism are 99% of the worlds problems right there.
    Global warming comes to mind.
There is no doubt that the earth is warming, glacier melt etc.
Having said that there is absolutely no proof that man is responsible for this event.
We had global cooling in the seventies, remember?
Guess what? The glaciers in Alaska were still retreating at that time.
I know first hand because I lived there in the 70's and the 90's.

I'm sure there are plenty of things that happen that we can't explain such as UFOs.
This is what I mean by attitude and not being open minded.
You think you know the bible so much well keep on thinking that.
Good Luck to you and I hope you have a good life.
This isn't totally clear to me if its a response to my statement only or Kcal stating that you guys should prove the exact opposite of us.
I will say that anybody who takes orders from a dog is a nut.
Your stories don't make any sense to me.:)
You are wrong on this one.
There is nothing that says I have to offer proof about any subject.
If I get bored or uncomfortable I'll just leave this thread and not return.
I don't feel like I have to change the world, I say to each his own beliefs as long as he doesn't infringe on my rights, this is America.
I wish I could help some people but they have to want to help themselves.
I'm talking about many things from this thread to everyday life.
I have no reason to change the subject, really!
And you have no problems with muslims wanting prayer rooms in public schools and airports?
I know you were the one who said that you talk about christianity because this is a christian nation.

I think this is a great post and a good point.

I'll give you one more example of things that happen or don't happen all the time.
Its called the weather followed by hurricanes.
Looked how bad Katrina was and it was due to global warming.
Look at the predictions for hurricanes the last 2 years and how many did we have.
Look at all the hype after Katrina of how many hurricanes we would have and
how big and bad they were.
My point is man thinks he is so smart and has all the answers but he knows
very little, we probably have explored more outer space than we have the
    ocean floors.
