You were at that game Rich? I was too. My cousin played for Evangel that year at offensive tackle. That was one of the best high school ball games I have ever seen, and the whole deal with the Cecilia fan having a heart attack made it quite exciting (we were all sad to hear that the poor fella later died). I have to hand it to Cecilia, they had a good team that year. And an awesome kicker, which is why it's not surprising that they won the game 31-28, on a last second field goal. As I recall, Cecilia went on to beat Karr 12-9 in the 3A title game (again, on a last second field goal).

That's okay, the next year, my cuz and his buddies got their ring. They beat St. James 28-27, in perhaps THE BEST high school football game I have ever seen.

He didn't die. Unless he did recently. I went to school with one of his son's and I talked to his son at the championship game against Karr. His dad couldn't come to the championship game because of the heart attack, but he was listening to it on the radio.
I agree that the Cec/Evangel game was one of the best that I have seen. I didn't see the St. James/Evangel game that year.
Actually, we scored with just over a minute left in the game and I was still scared that Evangel could score in that time! Fortunately, they didn't and we won!

Actually, he did die last year. His oldest son (he'd be about 43-45) had a mild heart attack a couple of weeks ago but is doing fine now. Those genes are something. I'm fortunate to have teflon arteries. That cholesterol just slides right off. I was not at the game. I had been out of town and got back too late to drive to Shreveport. I have a video of the game though it's poor quality.

I would love to see that game too. I hope some cable channel picks it up. Normally I would root for any Louisiana team to beat any California team but to root for Evangel would be too much like rooting for Notre Dame. Where does Evangel get the money to fly to all of those out of state games?

The ECA v DLS game will be on one of the ESPN channels. They moved the game to Diablo State University's stadium which holds around 12,000 people and already has lights and facilities suitible for broadcast telivision. As for ECA getting all the money, they are signing home and home deals with these teams, and I am sure there is some type of gate reciept guarentee. But really DLS is the only one that I see were flying would be required. Rockhurst really isnt that close to Shreveport but would be drivable depending on the LHSAA travel rules. I dont know if there is a limit on the number of days previous that a team can travel to a game.
