When he's ready for a DC position, Pelini will be ready for a HC position. It's no secret Pelini is using this job to showcase himself. Something he couldn't do at OU due to being a Co-defensive coordinator, and something he never had a chance to finish at Nebraska because the staff was replaced when Calahan took over. Remember when Dunbar accepted the job here? Said that Miles kept at him until finally he made an offer he couldn't refuse? Well, and this is pure opinion on my part, but Dunbar holds the title as "Assistant Head Coach"--meaning he already is near the top of the coaching chain...Now, what if the "unrefusable offer" Miles made to him was once Pelini left for a head coaching job, Dunbar would take over as DC?? One of the things that make me feel that way is the simple fact that the majority of the positional coaches in the pros don't accept the same job in college unless it is accompanied by some higher incentives....
Dunbar aint goin anywhere for a while. He went to the NFL so hes been there done that. He loves Baton Rouge. Take it easy.
Only 25 schoarships can be awarded per year, but the new class will likely have a few that fail to qualify and will grayshirt or go the JC route. There are also always flunk-outs, transfers, and guys that just quit football onthe current team. It makes sense to oversign, within reason. The key number is the 85-scholarhip limit in August.
I expect within the next year or two we will lose both our offense and defense co-ordinators to Head Coach Positions. I think our program is solid and with Miles we will be competitive year in and out because it looks like he has picked up where Saban left off and has the ability to recruit well. Yes we will lose the occasional La. prospect but as long as we sign most of the ones we want and pull some from Miss., Fla., and Texas then we will have the talent to compete at the highest level. With the reduced level of Scholarships now it is so important to continue to have top notch recruiting. That was Dinardo and some of the other Coach's downfall was they let recruiting slip a little and it hurt them on the field. You have to recruit kids with the right values because being just good at Football doesnt get you through school. ALA Cecil The Diesel. I like this class and if we can finish off with a few more top prospects this class meets the needs of what we needed. One note i would make is i might go after this Manley kid harder and not for DE but for Linebacker. They say he is fast and he would be a good fit at linebacker for this team.
Yeah that was my thinking. A big, strong, fast, middle linebacker that can go sideline to sideline and be fast enough to cover or rush the Qb. And with his bloodline i bet he has good football smarts having been around the game his whole life.
I'm concerned (and curious) as to what happened to Manley? I mean, at one point, we were practically druelling over this guy, and then as quickly as he visited, he wasn't mentioned any more. I know he is a early graduate (JUCO) and wanted to enroll early...Seems as though he would be nearing his decision time with the Spring semester starting up....
Sports South had on a special Friday about a high school in Fla. that had three o/l that everyone wanted. The black guy choose the Gators...the two white dudes are heading to Notre Dame. Must have been on hell of a hs line.
I saw posted that he didn't have enough credits that would transfer and was going to end up at oregon.
