Yeah. And the major reason why I think VY won't go down the Michael Vick road is coaching. VY has great coaching with Jeff Fisher and reknowned QB guru Norm Chow to guide his development. Vick has had Dan Reeves ( a good coach but not as good as Fisher IMO) and Jim Mora Jr. Plus, there is a path to guide these extremely mobile QBs. Vick was the first in this current NFL generation and is/was sort of a guinea pig for development. VY has a clearly defined path for his development.
He is going to be successful but he is not going to be a great. Thats my opinion. He is a winner and everything, but you cant be a great QB if you cant throw like one, and VY certainly cant. But if JR gets PROPER coaching, he is going to be one of the all time greatest, because he has every tool and talent to become one. Its all about the coaching and motivation. If money doesnt spoil him, then he has a big chance.
Yesterday I was watching the Florida game and what I noticed that Russell didnt play as bad as his stats, they mostly ran the ball, but he was quite successfull on third downs. The 2 interceptions he threw were all late in the 4th quarter and both were off the hands of D. Bowe, they just flew up for grabs. And on some third downs, he made a few amazing throws that announcers said all college QBs and some NFL QBs cant make.
Or how about Lawrence Taylor on field goals and extra points. He could just fly around that end and tackle man with footbaw.
No doubt. David Fulcher was probably the second best defender, on par with Ronnie Lott. Some developer was a BIG Fulcher fan.
There are players since who have recorded as many sacks and looked as good rushing the passer. I prefer to give the honor to a guy by the name of Darrell Green. As true cover corners go, this guy might have been the best ever... plus he did his work on the field a lot quieter than ol' LT. I still fail to see the logic of those who continue to bring this up. Why can't people realize that being the 1st pick due to amazing physical ability doesn't necessarily translate to being a championship-level college QB? I predicted he would bring 0 championships to LSU because he couldn't ever seem to play consistently enough.... and I was right. So were a lot of those who you are now calling out. Then you didn't pay much attention. Consecutive lackluster performances combined with losses against AU and UF knocked him off of everyone's watch list. He was certainly square in the middle after LSU's blowout of Arizona. Most realize that the award is usually (read, always) given to the best player on the team that is favored going into the NC game. I'll give you one. "If he could only" protect the football and quit fumbling on his running plays........ Tennessee was a freaking GIFT. His physical attributes are indeed once in a lifetime. EDIT: I'm not saying he can't make the reads or read defenses, either. What I AM saying is that he has always seemed a little above putting the hard work in. The fumbleitis of 2006 really, really got under my skin as well. When you have two losses in SEC play by mid October, it's kinda tough to show up nationally. I wholeheartedly disagree with this paragraph. JR's whole problem throughout his tenure at LSU was that his head was too big for his shoulders, especially during his RSFR season. Saban was on record saying during 2004 that he wasn't putting the work in. I believe it too, because after watching the quarterback play that whole season there was no reason to believe that Jamarcus wasn't the most talented kid on the roster. As do I.
