As to Jefferson, I'll say he still looks confused. But he most certainly stepped up in the pocket better than last year...particularly on the long pass to RR. And it was a beautifully thrown ball. We threw the ball downfield with JJ!! - Last season, people blamed the sacks on one of two things, or more correctly, on both things. OL, and JJ. We didn't give up a sack Saturday night. I'd say that's improvement...twofold. - Shep touched the ball in multiple different ways. The only thing he didn't do was throw it...which I'm still eagerly anticipating. But to complain about Shep's touches is silly. Like I said, he touched it more than anyone, with the exception of Ridley. - One I left out earlier. Tight end. With our starter out, we still got the tight end involved. And with that said, JJ threw the ball in the middle of the field, which is something we didn't see last season.
Like I said, you can't count Sturdivant...since he played. And neither of the corners are first round projections. One is a preseason second team ACC corner though.
I'm sorry the guys don't fit your rules. but all summer long we have been hearing how UNC would have 5 or 6 first rounders on their defense. I didn't make the projections. It is what it is.
Good question. But I doubt Les took it out. I believe that's on Crowton. We used it a bit in 2007, but it was said we were still running Jimbo's system. Since we stopped using Jimbo's system and started using Crowton's, that's when the problems on offense started. ISLSTL likes to think Crowton was singlehandedly responsible for the '07 offense, and since then, Les has taken over the offense. :rolleye33: I know this. I've seen Les holding a playbook once in the past, and that was last year against AU. IIRC, that was our best offensive game of the year. Make of it what you will.
Deangelo Peterson came on really strong last year towards the end of the season. I agree with you about the pass to Randle, even though i do think he held on a second too long. I just don't see any improvement with Jefferson. He wasn't a bad quarterback last season. He has great numbers in the completion percentage and red zone categories, TD to INT ratio is good also. With Jefferson it's all about his timing and his reads. To me it seems he still panics when his first read isn't open. As long as his first read is open, he is great, and usually completes the pass unless he is getting his receivers head taken off. The pass over the middle that went for good a long gain from JJ to Mitch Joseph was a beautiful throw, and i think Deangelo would have taken that one to the house. I guess what i am trying to say is that all of the stuff he did well, he was doing well last year. It's just when his first read isn't open, he is lost. But I don't totally blame him. Those kinks should have been worked out. I still think Jefferson gives us the best chance to win, but the OC needs to get his **** together, and now.
And to think we bitched, griped, moaned, and complained about Jimbo's schemes and play calling. Further proof of be careful what you wish for.
Now it's 5 or 6?? Crap! I never heard more than 4, and like I said...one of them played. Besides, last season, Ciron Black, Chad Jones, and Brandon Lafell were "projected" first round picks by the "experts". - Fact is, they had some key personnel out for the LSU game, particularly on defense. Just tired of people overstating it. It isn't like they became a high school team overnight. They have serious talent 2 deep. It was more like they became Wake Forest. Starting the year at a neutral site against a BCS conference team, people shouldn't have assumed we would just mop the floor with them. Without the friggin' fumbles, we did just that. Edit to add***It isn't MY rules. It's YOURS. YOU'RE the one...along with some help...stating they had an NFL defense that missed the game. Not me. Problem is, now you're even admitting you don't know what you're talking about.:nope: But yes, I am making the rule that you can't count Sturdivant...BECAUSE HE PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with most of this. I do think one should note that JJ stepped up in the pocket better, and also note that last year, we didn't throw downfield like that at all...and didn't throw over the middle. Both of those things are improvements to me...along with the pocket presence. Don't take that the wrong way...he's no Drew Brees or Peyton Manning in the pocket. Just saying he improved there. Still a long way to go. And yes, he HAS to improve his timing. That should come with experiences like Saturday night. He has to learn to trust his receivers. He should've learned he can trust RR.
