All schools oversign to account for attrition and all scholarships are for one year. All schools. Sometimes a player gets squeezed out by the numbers. Everywhere, not just at LSU. Every kid on the team knows that if he can't make the top-85, he's going to lose a scholarship offer. Most transfer, grayshirt, and sometimes even walk-on. Coaches work with players to help them find a spot somewhere. But players that refuse to get in shape or take practice seriously because of low position on the depth chart may get cut, especially if he has been butting heads with his coach. Most are quietly embarrassed at not being able to make the top-85, but every now and then you get a crybaby.
Actually Porter was promised a scholarship in 2010 and we didn't lie about that. It was on the table until he went to UK. No one was kicked out of the dorm, they chose to leave.
One important fact left out from this conversation is that LSU did not try to over sign and were right at the number they needed to be at for the 2010 class. Then the NCAA made a rule that early enrollees could not be counted back to the previous class anymore. This rule was put into place after National Signing Day. Hence the over-signing. The rule also states that you have to be under the 85 limit in the previous year to count any players back. I see what the NCAA was trying to do to help the system they put in place but this actually hurts the walk-ons hoping to earn scholarships. Now teams will be forced to keep those scholarships open for a year to recruit and add depth in needed areas.
So what was your opinion on the piece ESPN did? Do you think it was irresponsible journalism? I find it quite interesting that this would come out right in the middle of the homestretch in recruiting season. Of course everything is a conspiracy to me, so I may be over reacting.
He was offered a greyshirt. Yes, that is called lying and that is called oversigning. I assure if he wouldn't have left voluntarily or submitted to their offer after the lie, he would have been dragged out by the police.
Yet they are way over this year. They do not have even close to 23 slots available unless a bus full of players goes over a cliff. The solution is simple, don't do it.
"Recruiting expert", you mean if I setup a website trying to get a job in the nuclear engineering field that would make me an "expert" on nuclear technology? He is no expert, he is guy with a website hoping for a job. This forum is funny. I mean he can't manage his website. Let's fans that support his point of view insult away while banning others. Delusional fans group together, you should see some of the Auburn forums... just like this one. I really couldn't tell the difference except one Tiger forum has Auburn in front of the Tiger and the other one has LSU. I know, you are not like them, yep they believe in conspiracies too, big black helicopters flying over BR with a small ESPN logo. I am sorry I don't drink koolaid even if it's purple. Instead of rejecting the story, you should be asking questions, like how can LSU avoid this type of thing from happening again so LSU is not known for this.
Never before have I met someone who can reword the same thought into 100 different posts. He is totally useless to this board. Can someone tell me how to block this crack-o-lantern? He has single handedly ruined my good time by causing me to have to sift through page after page of nonsense just to find something intelligent.
