Who knows? I am sure the story is not a strong endorsement if the kid is a borderline prospect for LSU but that is just my opinion.
The scholarship to the university for an education is for ONE year. If the universities don't live up to that, they are in violation. If ESPN is bothered by this, may the wind be in their sails. If they can get everyone a 4 year guaranteed contract at said university, I say put them on world hunger. If you got some pull with the NCAA, now's the time. Though, throwing coach Miles and Saban under the bus won't be the most popular in at least two states. The signing process is nothing new. Maybe ESPN can reinvent the wheel. If they need some ideas I got a few. Maybe coach Miles and Saban have a few of their own. Until then, if you don't think these BCS schools are going to push the envelope to get an advantage your not thinking hard enough.
It's most irrelevant because LSU oversigned, if it were not Garrett it would have been some other player. 85 = 85, 87 does not equal 85 My guess like I said before is Les hit it early, they knew they couldn't get down to numbers. He looks at Z. Lee being signed, sees Garrett's parents can probably afford the school, does his song and dance on TV. Like I said, I don't see what it really has to do with anything.... Porter was thrown out on his ass. Porter got it worse than Garrett. I just don't think the Garrett's liked what was said about their son on TV and according to them the statements were untrue as to how it happened. Of course, Les gave Bates a real nice Signing Day as well. I have no idea what these guys are thinking.
Who knows if a kid will even see the story? If they do then who knows what would happen. I would guess it would be a negative impact but check this out. The kid doesn't like it so he calls a LSU representative and asks about it. What could the answer be? The Truth whatever that may be? Who knows.
I never once thought teams would not push it, and I enjoy watching the stories about the coaches that do it. I really fail to see the problem with the story.
Yes, I am, just like all of the top universities have for the past umpteen years. They all do what they need to get an edge. Like it or not, agree with it or not, it is what is and has been going on for a very long time. If you want to be the best, you have to insist on the best, and the best have to insist the best be around them. It isn’t just about the student athletes my friend, although their best interests are taken into consideration first, it is about the almighty dollar signs. Has been for a long time. With programs pulling in close to 100 mill every season their fans expect to see the best on the field. You see it is a vicious cycle. It doesn’t start and stop with the individual school, or the NCAA it goes far beyond that. It goes to the fans demanding to get their entertainment dollars worth, to the networks demanding to see the best product on TV, to the sponsors and boosters demanding to get their investment dollars well spent. To think it starts and stops with the relationship of the student athlete and the school is very naïve. In this case ESPN is pumping a story that is a non story, and if it weren’t for what is really happening ESPN wouldn’t be part of the fuel to the machine.
Not sure if anyone pointed this out because I have not read every response, but do you think he and espn would be talking in he were the starting QB in the Cotton bowl on the 7th? I bet not!!! That tells me its sour grapes, he is not coming foward due to indescretion on the part of LSU, he is coming foward due to the fact he could not win the position.:rolleye33:
If that were the case, why was Porter thrown out on his ass. 85 = 85, someone was going home. If it were not Garrett, it might have been Chris Tolliver. Wait till you see how many go home this year if 23 are signed. My guess, Les took a calculated risk that Garrett would stay as a walk-on and have the parents pay the way. I can see the logic if all you care about is winning.
