Maybe, but he doesn't have the horses to run it. Ain't no Cam on his sidelines these days. Hell...there ain't even a Darren McFadden.

Offense looked much better than the last few seasons in my opinion. I cringed on a few of those deep passes I admit... and as it turned out, they were mostly catchable. But TCU's defense was on their game Saturday night. There were at least two pass interference calls that were missed; both I think might have been touchdowns otherwise. I think a few more games will strengthen the chain guys. There is definitely room for improvement all around, but regardless of what others might say, TCU has a pretty good defense. And I think in spite of that, LSU's new approach to the offense paid off. I am pleased and excited. Looking forward to seeing more!

So nobody thought Metts still had some same tendencies?
Sure it was an improvement, especially on the quick posts routes. But he still has plenty of improvement.
Maybe I was a bit harsh on the DL but I don't remember seeing a ton of pressure on the QB and the Boykin ate LSU up. I guess more criticism should've been leveled at the LB's.

I missed the ref error on the delay of game at the end of the 2nd half. There is no excuse for not getting a play in timely at the end of the game when you are running the clock out. It's 1st down and you have to call time out. Easy call....run play.

Mett seems to have a delayed response. Now, it could have been nerves on the first game of the season (away from home no less). Regardless, he definitely looked better than he has. He does have some of the same tendencies and his reaction time isn't really quick enough <yet>. But if you paid any attention since Mett took the reigns, you can see that he is capable of learning and improving.

Sorry mods, we seem to have gotten off topic here LOL

My main complaints against Mett last year were a lack of accuracy on the long ball and a tendency to hold on to the ball when nothing is there. I believe we all saw how accurate he has become, and the sheer number of throwaways should tell you that he's not holding on to the ball any longer than he has to.

All QBs not named Drew Brees have room for improvement.

Our DL got held so much Saturday that I bet you their jerseys have been stretched out to the next largest size.

Is it that easy? Do you run left or right? Off-tackle, off-guard, end-around, edge sweep, draw, dive, etc.? If you plan to run right, and they are stacked up there and you know you need to get three yards for a first down, are you still going to run the play, or call a time out to get something better? There are plenty of reasons for calling a TO at the end of games while trying to put it away.

At the end of the first half, we weren't trying to run the clock out. We were trying to score. I'm confused?

ETA: Did we call a time out at the end of the game?

I am in between what you said and what JP4LSU is saying. He is tons better at getting rid of the ball, but the one time he got sacked he had no chance since he didn't see it coming. We need to get the running backs as our check down and get that squared away. Will give Mett so much more confidence knowing he has a reliable safety valve. We didn't have one last weekend. Luckily the O-line held up well enough not to expose what could still be Mett's weakness at QB. He obviously hasn't turned into Drew Brees in pocket awareness all of a sudden or have the legs of an RG III. He's a lot like Cam's old QB, Flacco.

I have to put that one on the running back, whose responsibility is to pick up the corner blitz.

It was such a huge improvement. Sure he has room to improve further, most college quarterbacks do. But his poise was evident and he did not hold onto the ball too long. Moreover his passing was crisp and accurate. He's playing at another level than last year.

Anyone who didn't see a diamond that just needs a little bit of polishing wasn't paying attention. This team has the potential to be better than the 2010/2011/2012 team.
