I agree, Crowton is smart enough to use all the weapons he will have at LSU. I think he will add a bunch of his style O but I don't see a total overhaul.
I think this is a good hire; possibly one you guys might find yourself considering an upgrade in the next few years. I remember watching Crowton for the first time when he took over for Edwards at BYU. Wide open O, but did incorporate some option.
Wow, what a great hire. Crowton must be doing backflips thinking about all this talent he will be working with. And getting this done before signing day should solidify a great recruiting class. McKnight and company would be crazy to not want to play in this style of offense. Things just keep getting better under Miles. Congrats, Coach.
I wonder if it would be a moot point to do a poll at this point to see if Tiger nation is in favor of this OC hire. I suspect the meter will probably tilt:grin:
<playing devil's advocate> I wouldn't get too excited about the offensive stats just yet. You gotta remember the PAC-10 defenses are alot softer than the SEC defenses.
We heard similar stuff about Meyer's spread offense can't succeed b/c SEC defenses are too tough and too fast. Crowton's offense is not the same, but when you give an offensive guru talent, they can make their offense work in any league. How did it work out for Meyer?:hihi:
depends on how you look at it. JMO, but I don't think too many opposing SEC DC's were very fearful of Meyer's offense, it was UF's defense that gave them the edge. Granted, UF's offense finally clicked against OSU, but prior to that they sputtered and stalled throughout the season. Opponents with fast DE's from the 4-3 set were causing inconsistent production out of Meyer's offense the entire season .... good between the twenties, but woefully inadequate in the red zone. UF ranked 5th in the SEC in passing and 3rd in rushing ..... behind Fisher's LSU offense in both categories. UF did it with D, and Charlie Strong deserves more credit for the best effort of his career.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good hire. I just don't understand why everyone took so long to support CLM, but with the new OC we're sportin' woodies before he even makes it to LA. UF averaged 29.71 pts/game LSU averaged 33.69 pts/game
I don't think any offense will scare the top defenses in the SEC. No doubt UF's defense was great, but they did end up 2nd in the SEC in scoring and total offense. My point is that most, at least on this board, thought Meyer's offense would fail in the SEC. I think that turned out to be false.
I think during the championship game Fox put up a stat that showed UF only average 24 pts/game in SEC games. Their defense is what took them to the promise land.
