The really sad part is Louisiana is essentially the 1st divorced wife in this scenario. When the husband gets successful, he dumps her for the young, new girl. Benson will not probably not live too many more years, so we had to put up with him and his crap, now another city will get the next owner ("new young wife") and the benefits that Louisiana has earned for what we put up with. Although it probably won't happen, I wish Benson would somehow feel the pain he has caused this state.
Ben$on is grooming his grand daughter to take over the team so the new city will probably see the same old chit.
Why do so many LSU fans have such a hatred for the Saints ? I can see not caring, but I just don't understand the hate. I'm the first to hate Tom Benson, but that does'nt mean that I hate the idea of professional football in New Orleans. He won't last forever, and we can hope that his grandaughter or whoever buys the team has a little more pride than ole Tom. I'm pulling for the fans to show-up on Sunday, and show AGAIN to the NFL and America that we do deserve to keep our team. An interesting analogy would be the LSU fans who were hating Joe Dean and DiNardo - should they have stopped loving LSU because of the AD and Coach ?...or continue to love LSU and hope for a change at the top ?
I even hate the Mannings. There have been several changes at the top and, except for brief periods with Finks and with Mueller, the Saints have been cellar dwellers with no hope for improvement. I want them to go. If there's no NFL in New Orleans, so be it. I'm developing a dislike for the NFL anyway. Players like T.O, Moss, Shockey and a gazillion other prima donnas have turned me off. Do you really like seeing T.O. act like some queer waiter struttin' his stuff just because he caught a pass? Like he's really something special? And...well, you get the point. Fuggem all.
With all due respect..... If you feel that way, then why are you a College Football Fan ? I see a lot of the same behavior on Saturdays - and some equally ridiculous behavior from High School kids. I'm a football fan, period. The foolish antics of some of them make me pull against them.
I posted this on another board and I will post it here because it seems relevant. The reason I don't care if the Saints go or not, and the reason why so many people in this state love LSU but could care less about the Saints. Because a love of LSU athletics has been ingrained in the psyches of the people of this state for over 100 years. Because LSU doesn't try to extort money from the citizens of Louisiana in order to build a new stadium. Because LSU will never abandon this state in the face of a natural disaster. And THAT is why college sports are better than pro sports. Notre Dame will always be in South Bend, Alabama will always be in Tuscaloosa, and Saturday Night In Death Valley will always be in Baton forking Rouge !!!!
If they leave, I hope that the city does what the Browns did and at least keep the name and logo for any expansion teams that might come to NOLA
If you saw a college player fold a towel over his arm and waltz around the endzone with the ball held high, you would also see a yellow flag and said player on his ass at the end of the bench.
I'm not sure about the towel over the arm thing(?), but the rest of that stuff goes on on Saturdays - albeit not as blatant as in the NFL. My point was that the guys you are cutting down for their behavior on Sundays are basically the same that you love on Saturdays - only a few years older.
Football is entertainment. Celebrating is entertaining to most people. THe only ones that really hate the celebrations are those that somehow think that football is some sort of hallowed concept, that shouldn't be tainted with non-plays. If you don't like the celebrations, ignore them. It's not that hard. But don't forget, it's entertainment.
