I may be wrong, but I think OSU is going to go on to a better season than yall think. I think they are a tough little team with a QB that can make things happen. JMO
i think they will be good also and learn a lot from this....they still may not play as well the rest of the way but who knows.
That's a good point. They were even more lost against the triple option than our first string D was on the first few GSU drives. For anyone that hasn't seen the game yet, if you are interested and it sounds like a few of you are there are truths and falsehoods about the numbers and reports out of Athens this weekend. I have watched the game 3 times on TiVo. GSU got the ball first and ran ran ran on us. It wasn't anything huge or glaring. But we didn't stop them. They went for 4th and 1 four times during the game and got every single one of them. They started out with a lot of fakes to the FB but keeping it outside and then pitching to the RB's. It looked like our LB's were really worried with containing the option on the edges. Then GSU started running the FB trap a ton and got some decent yardage doing it. Basically they were getting 3 or 4 yards a pop throwing an occasional pass. They had a very LONG drive but in the end we stopped them and they punted. They ended up with a TD and at halftime they had 112 yards rushing and the score was 13-7. We came out in the 3rd quarter and our defense seemed totally adjusted to the triple option. We forced turnovers and 3 and outs. And on offense we scored 4 straight TD's (well one was a punt return after a 3 and out). So in the 4th quarter we were up 41-14 and we took EVERYONE out and our backups had a TON of trouble with the triple option. They ran all over us and scored TD's. So much so that Richt put our first team offense back in to chew up the rest of the clock and score a put away TD. You can look at it one of two ways: 1) The triple option is something that almost no one runs and GSU does it better than anyone. A team that averaged 336 yards rushing per game last year leading all NCAA Football teams (granted against Div II schools for the most part). UGA had trouble with it at first but adjusted and started shutting it down. The young late stringers had loads of trouble with it and it skewed the stats. or 2) UGA's defense isn't as talented and deep as everyone thought it was. 294 yards is the 2nd most all time against a UGA team and 1 more yard than LSU had against UGA in the SECCG last year. They were exposed by a little school for being soft up the middle and lacking depth at the LB position. Or it could be a combination of both. We may find out this weekend or we may not. Heck UGA could be 3-0 easily going into the LSU game but we won't have been tested by anyone with the talent of LSU.
Looking back that could be the case. Same thing with USC and Oklahoma. Which top 5 team looked lights out? None that I saw...
good recap. no I didnt see any top ranked team play well either. I guess Cal considering the opposition. Texas considering no opposition. truth is no one really knows anything to this point beyond having much room for improvement.
