    What isn't (about money)?
We're talking apples and oranges here. I love the World Series. But guess what-I don't follow the regular season that closely. In fact, living here in Houston I've been to games at the Juice Box in mid-June where people actually brought BOOKS TO READ during the game. Can you imagine that at an LSU football game?
Uhhh, hello. The season isn't over yet. Wait until the season is over then we'll discuss.
    Okla played Texas
    USC played Cal
    Aub played Ga
What do you want? The teams have paired down...ON THE FIELD.
In a "fair" playoff system every team would have to join a conference. There would be no non-conference games since each conference would consist of 20 teams or more. You'd never see LSU play anybody but the same teams year in and year out. That's the reality of a playoff system in D-1.
Reality check. Undefeatd Boise State has ZERO chance of beating USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, California, Texas, or any other team in the top 10-12. Non-BCS teams have EVERY chance to prove it on the field. If La Tech scheduled Oklahoma, USC, LSU and Auburn for their non-conference opponents and won all those games where would they be ranked? Probably No. 1 and would probably play for a national championship.
A computer based power rating??? Can you say POLL???
Middle of the pack and smaller college teams also know what they need to get it done. Schedule the top teams and WIN. It doesn't get any more simple than that.

First off, I'm about 90% sure that the regular season will finish with an undefeated Auburn team left out of the Orange Bowl.

However, that shouldn't be the issue here. The issue is the fact that it COULD happen. How do you justify a system where a team goes out there every week and wins every "playoff" game, only to get to the end and be told "There's no room for you here?" If the regular season is indeed a playoff, then Auburn has won every playoff game and STILL doesn't have a shot at the National title. Justify that.

What do you want? How about Auburn getting a chance against the two ahead of them.

How will you ever really KNOW that Boise has no chance against USC or the likes if they never get there shot?

Suppose in THIS season Utah scheduled Texas, Cal, and Auburn, and beat them all. Utah would still probably be No. 3 with no chance of getting into the National Title game, because USC and Oklahoma have the doors locked right now.

Most of the time the regular season turns out to be a single-elimination playoff. That's fine when it works. However, how in the world do you justify a team going unbeaten in a major conference and not getting to play for the National Championship?

You completely ignore crucial things in an attempt to bolster your posotion.

Case in point, notice how you conveniently used Boise State in your example instead of, say.... Utah. Utah, like Boise State, is not in a BCS conference, is undefeated, and has no chance at a national championship.

Oh, I see now..... My bad.... all these quality non-BCS schools have to do is schedule the best teams. After all, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Common sense prevails. Silly LSUGradin99, how dare you not think of this.....

NEWS FLASH: The USC's, Oklahoma's, and LSU's of the college football world are NOT lining up en masse to play quality non conference opponents. Especially those who are non-BCS conference teams that are consistent winners of their conferences.

Reality Check: It is NOT POSSIBLE for these quality non-BCS schools to schedule the best and beat the best. You try to simplify it into being very very easy. Nonsense!

You are comparing apples to oranges here like you say but then you combine them to make a point?
You are comparing a 162 game season to college football's 15 or 16 game season if their was a playoff.
BTW, I usually do read a book that you buy at the game if information about the game
in normal years when you play the rent a win teams because those games usually are
    entertaining and meaningless.
So you see their are meaningless games in college football like LSU vs Arkansas Little Rock or ULM.
Yes they have to win but the games usually aren't worth the price of admission.

I wonder if you would've said this last year if LSU got left out of the picture.
The BCS was suppose to fix things so that there was no dispute over #1, didn't happen, you had LSU and USuck that claimed to be champions.
BTW USC had 1 loss and did get left out of the Sugar bowl.
Its meaningless to have half the conferences have a championship game and half have not so it is broken.

For every team you named here I bet they had 1 meaningless game against an out of conference team like North Texas or Houston.
Boring, zzzzzzzzzz I say eliminate these kind of games and come up with a playoff format.

You are probably correct about Boise State.
Reality check, your scenario with La Tech wouldn't happen, they would never schedule
an OOC schedule like that for 1 thing but I will say that so far Auburn will be left out
of the National Championship game and that flat out is wrong!
When they took the SOS out last year, its all about politics and favorites and that just
    aint right.

Can you say that this is whats wrong with college football?
Can anyone tell me the reason Lou Holtz or the Cal coach or why Chris Fowler voted
the way they did in the polls last year?
I will tell you that what Chris Fowler and the Cal Coach said made no sense at all, none.

I would rather not have any rankings until the season is halfway over and then let the computers do it with SOS thrown in the mix.
I just don't like the politics and favoritizm now days.

The bottomline is that college football is in the dark ages still, power, corruption, money is the root of all evil, 18th century here.
Every other sport has a playoff, End of story......
Maybe 1 day college football will be in the 21st century and become modern.
Some of us hope so because they are ruining an awful good game.

First of all why is everyone defending Auburn of all teams?
You're absolutely right. The only way to do this fairly is for each team to play a 117-game schedule. That way everyone would play everyone and we would once and for all find out who the real champion is.
Utah, Boise State, what's the difference? The point is everyone knows the rules going in and based on that each team has an equal opportunity.
Yeah, I was 90 percent sure John Kerry would be our next President...I was 90 percent sure my marriage would last forever...I was 90 percent sure O.J. was guilty.

    Let's talk after Saturday.
Are you saying that after the season is over you should arbitrarily add games to decide a NC? That's simply not feasible in the real world. If you are saying the system should be changed to include a playoff then I think we've already beaten that horse.
Any team that won those games and was still undefeated I don't care who it is, would be ranked either 1 or at the very least 2.

Hmm. Let's review. My system is in place voted and agreed upon by the college football world as the most fair and just system possible. Your system is flatly rejected time and time again as being nearsighted and half-witted. Who's the idiot?
