I can't fathom all of humanity going down to complete extinction. Zero man? I don't think so. It's way too late for that. Hell, seems like scrappy old man already survived many mass extinction episodes and keeps chugging away with his big brain in his big head. you suppose that a creation of man will out do man himself? hmm, i don't think so. what about the genius that created this robot and AI? Look, robots per se will never advance beyond man. But eventually the line between artificial intelligence and genetically improved humans may blurr quite significantly, where we might ask if this thing is really human? Rest assured, it will be. Totally human, and perfected by humans. You see, the slow life span and (espcially) evolution of future humans, will not be left to natural selection/random chance.--so you've assumed. even now man's brain is unlocking the deepest secrets of the universe. Some yawn, and ho-hum, and whatever, something that should be mindboggling impressive, and ask where man goes from here. p.s. i prefer the politically incorrect, but more eloquent "man" to the bastard "humanity" in this context.
well, thats stupid. you need to read more science. it could happen very easily. why not? clearly we can make something better than ourselves. you seem to be making statements about things you know nothing about. it is widely accepted that humans can and will make machines far more intelligent than humans. huh? natural selection is the opposite of random chance. it takes many generations of humans to evolvle. artificial life created by humans can evolve much faster. this is what scientists call "argument from incredulity". its not a smart way to make a point.
well, well, well. It could so easily happen? Yet, over five billion years it has not broken the chain of evolution that resulted in man. "Easily" maybe slightly relative, but here its use is utter stupidity. You should read more statistics. And now could you at least admit that its harder than ever to extinct man? no time now, but tomorrow i will steamroll the rest of your arguements.
an ice age could kill everyone, so could a meteor. we cant actually send a spaceship to nuke a meteor like in the movie armageddon. global warming, global cooling, solar flares, anoxia (oxygen depletion of the seas) comets, lots of things could kill us. 99% of all specias that ever existed are extinct. it could happen to us. there have been 5 major extinctions in the history of the earth. 245 million years ago was the one that killed the dinosaurs, it killed 95% of all life on earth.
No, many ice ages has not killed man nor his ancestorial species lineage, and it definitely would not now. There's a much better chance of Bruce Willis fighting back an asteroid. 99% of all species that ever existed are extinct." This is enormously misleading statement, usually bounded about by talking head dunces on TV that routinely corrupt and twist statistics. Species evolve into other species through first random chance of genetic mutations, and then, if the genetic change is beneficial, natural selection takes over. get enough of this process and you have entire new species, and the root species dies out. So all though "99%" of all species have died out, the forerunners are gone, the decendant species live on...most of them, there are a few truly unique lines that have died out, like your dinosaurs...although, not even them completely, rhinos, crocs, alligators and other species are modern dinosaurs. Martin Quote "why not? clearly we can make something better than ourselves. you seem to be making statements about things you know nothing about. it is widely accepted that humans can and will make machines far more intelligent than humans." ah, yes. If something is "Widely accepted" then it must be true? Aristotle would have taken a crap on this logic. Humans will not make machines more intelligent than humans, humans will make humans more intelligent than themselves. Random chance and natural selection (Yes, the two primary ingredients in evolution) will no longer be primary, it will be the hand of man at warp speed, compared to mother nature.
exactly. if it gets cold, build houses. if the cows are cold, put them in buildings. grow grass for them to graze on inside. grow the vegetables inside under sunlamps. Christianity is also widely accepted. In fact, it's almost ubiquitous. I know he rejects that, so by that rejection his argument is moot.
The only way man becomes totally extinct is: If the earth blows up, an asteroid takes earth out of its orbit, the sun blows up or God decides to do it. Yes, God, Sorry if I offended anyone but they will have to answer for their beliefs or lack of. A nuclear exchange just might do it also.
*runs out the door to find religion* My ten bucks is on nuclear holocaust and/or fallout. Only bookies that won't cover my bet are cockroaches and twinkies.
