another poor capitalism argument, contrary to popular belief every industry doesnt fit well into capitalism.
This isn't about removing restrictions. It is adding restrictions. The idea of net neutrality is that all web sites have equal access to the wide wide world and you have equal access to them, providing you have an internet provider who is not blocking web sites or slowing them down because they are not paying a fee (which on paid websites like Netflix) you will eventually have to pay. Internet providers do not own the net.
But they own access to it. We connect to it on cables they own. If certain activities use more of their bandwidth they should be able to charge the entities that provide those heavier consumption services more. Why should netflix and a plain text website have the same access to AT&T's network? Netflix will obviously use a lot more of AT&Ts resources. Why should government regulate how AT&T allocates their system resources?
Internet companies are crooks. I pay crazy fees only because there is only ONE provider in town. I pay for high speed and they put a limit on how much data I can use a month. It's bullshit. Basically, they are forcing me into cable because I use services like netflix, hulu, and Amazon.
We already lag behind the world in terms of broadband speeds and costs. Expect the trend to continue...
Why shouldn't netflix and a plain text website have the same access? That is the foundation of the internet. The govt. doesn't have to regulate it. The internet is an open forum for all. That is the problem with this. That is what capitalism is all about.... free market. Not fixing by three mega providers who own 90% of the provider market.
