I've said it elsewhere. I'll say it here. If I was Skip, he wouldn't be my #1 choice. If we are to believe everything we read, he may be the best of whats left. If he's announced as our next head coach then I'm as big a Les Miles fan as anybody. Born a Tiger. Always a Tiger.

Saban put us in this Situation

I say we give Bobby Williams a 1-yr contract for next year until a better candidate comes open! Seriously though, I'd almost rather have Bobby than any of the other names I've heard except maybe Petrino, and he's off the market anyway.

It's hard for me to be objective at this point. As someone suggested on another thread, I think I'll take some time away from LSU-related things (which is easy to do where I live) and just enjoy life. Maybe I'll go play in the snow. [IMG]

Well, the Tigers just finished 9-3. Is their some rebuilding to do? That's important in terms of who you want to coach. If you think the tools are there, you may want continuity in the program. If that is the case, is Les Miles that guy, or do you need to go big-name or bigger name? If there is some rebuilding to do in your view, then a Miles might work. The way I see it, if Miles comes in, I don't know that LSU goes on and doesn't miss a beat. There may be at least a short-term dip in the program. Miles has to get up and running and retain local/nearby talent. It'll take at least some time to get things where he wants them. A big-name guy, OTOH, might be able to come in and save some recruits and even attract more. This is what I am thinking.

No one on this board will say it but everyone I knew was like "WTF? Nick Saban? The guy is 35-24 at Michigan State. He won't win at LSU"

But of course, now everyone says "I knew he would be great" Right.

Les Miles is a damn good coach and will prove it once he gets here.

Unfort, this looks like a Ron Zook situation. If Miles goes 9-2 next year, fans like G-Man who admit to giving him a much shorter leash even in his first year, will call for his head.

Absolutely! Whoever our next coach is going to be, we should support him. We all know that everyone here would have wanted Saban to stay...but the harsh reality of it is that he's not. He's gone.

We can't hold our next coach up to the expectations of Saban (at least not until after his first 2 seasons as I'll give him a mulligan of sorts for next season to get accustomed to the team and staff).

    coaching change

No one thought too much of the Saban choice when he got the job but as in the last selection process the names that came out in the press initially were a far cry from the last couple of names that were in the hunt.

Good coaches for the most part are in good spots already and not willing to move but I have to say when a coach from Louisville says no thank you then you have to wonder what his reasons were. To think that Louisville will ever play at a national level is up to now as history says, is not likely. I guess things could change for them.

It would be kind of funny if an ex Saint came back. Maybe he's tired of hurricanes--the real ones!

Congratulations, you guys got one of the best coaches in the country. Everybody knows how bad OSU sucked for 12 years before he was hired right? And the few years they didn't suck before that, they bought their players and were put on the 2nd worst probation, (behind SMU's death penalty), ever. Go to O-State.com and look at the stadium. It was not even close to being a dream until him. We are loaded with young talent now. We have a great recruiting class coming in.

He will thrive in BR. You guys are Louisiana football. No competition. He recruits against OU, Texas, and Texas A&M here and gets a lot of great talent.

He operates on the 2nd to last operating budget in the Big XII, (just in front of that huge national power Iowa State).

Give him a chance, he will make you proud. He is a man of extreme integrity.

We will miss him very much.

But you now have an Oklahoma based LSU Tiger fan, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The two year mulligan thing just won't work in this situation. With the team we have coming back next year we could promote EQ Stringfellow and win 9 games. Whoever it is they better win, and win big or LSU will not have to fire them, the fans will run him out of town.
