Bigger Badgers an XXXL test | Oregon .....Considered Oregon’s biggest question entering the season, the line has proved to be the defense’s most valuable unit, according to coordinator Nick Aliotti. The Ducks’ defensive tackles in particular — Hart along with fellow sophomores Wade Keliikipi and Ricky Heimuli, plus junior Isaac Remington — are a quiet, don’t-mind-us bunch that has, in turn, quieted any doubts about its ability to hold its own in the trenches. “We knew what we had,” said Remington, when asked about some of the early concerns about his line mates, “and the D-line has been a strength of our team, and I think the coaches would agree with me.” Their strength figures to be tested more than ever in the Rose Bowl, with Wisconsin boasting an offensive line that averages 322 pounds among its regular starters.....
Depth is everything, mr duck. You can't have just the starting two ends and two tackles that are good. They get tired as the game wears on. When a quality stable of backs and a big o-line keeps applying the pressure you have to be able to swap out your big dudes with fresh big dudes. It's very important to not have a drop off when subbing big dudes out. That's how lsu, without many big preseason names, has been able to succeed. You don't need a superstar. What you need is several very good big men that allows you to keep fresh legs in the game.

Ohio State? Nothing to see there USC fans! - Pac-12 Blog - ESPN By Ted Miller Breathe, USC fans, breathe. In fact, I'd suggest you ignore what happened Tuesdaywith Ohio State and its slap on the wrist from the NCAA for a massive systemic breakdown and a coverup by head coach, Jim Tressel. Yes, when you hold up the Ohio State case and the USC case, it's impossible not to conclude the Ohio State case was far more severe. It was, of course, without question. No informed, objective person believes differently. But here's the thing: Being outraged will accomplish nothing. You will be unhappy and your team will still be docked 30 scholarships over the next three years for what one player secretly did while Ohio State will be down just nine scholarships over the same time period for the rule-breaking of five with full knowledge of their head coach. And your unhappiness will provide great joy to folks who don't like your team....
"Barkley’s back, Chryst isn’t, and other links" | Oregon Football with Rob Moseley | The Register-Guard By Rob Mosely ....Big news around the conference today is USC quarterback Matt Barkley's decision to pass up the NFL draft and return to school for this senior season, as he just announced in a televised press conference. That greatly boosts the Trojans' resume as a 2012 national title contender. As for the impact on Oregon, the Ducks return their top three corners at the moment, plus free safety John Boyett and pass rushing end Dion Jordan, so it figures to be a heck of a matchup when Oregon plays at USC next season and the Trojans have the ball. The one rumor I've seen floating around is that the game will be in September, which would have been an edge for the Ducks if USC was breaking in a new quarterback. But that won't be the case now....
