Oregon has a population of 3.8 million

San Francisco bay area has 7.2 million
    Southern California 22.9 million

USC continues to dominate their regions recruits. Great weather and tradition draw many more elite recruits to USC. Their recruiting classes rival those of any SEC team, or any other storied program.

Not quite as bad as it once was, PAC teams still fight over the Spoiled Children's leftovers.

I really loved living in Eugene, but truthfully, the Ducks are prospering, despite having a tough location to draw to.

La. has a population of 4.4 million and we sit in between population giants of Texas and Florida. We had to retain our talent locally to start truly building the program. We have done that and can now recruit out of state as well, but our bread and butter is here.

You guys do not have a local base that can sustain that kind of growth. You will always be dependent upon recruiting out of state to have any kind of chance. You guys would have to be considered a model program in doing this.

That said, I find I take more pride in getting behind our home-grown talent, especially when people come out of my high school, or even a rival high school like T. Mathieu. Sometimes I love to hate on the guy because he went to St. Aug., but I admire and respect him and their program. Purple Knights, baby! :hihi:

I agree that Oregon's success, will always depend upon out of state recruiting, and that is true of Oregon State as well.

A downside is, the players don't really have a feel for just how important 'Civil War' week is to Oregonians.

The Rosebowl, it's a big deal, for me winning the Civil War is almost as big. I especially don't want to hear smack from my Bark-rat cousins. I dread the thought of the Beavers being the ones that kept the Ducks from smelling the Roses.

Well, that game always seems to be interesting on the field. Why is that? Is it the in-state California rivalry on the field while the fans play the oregon rivalry in the stands?

    Unusual situation there.

    Oregon vs Oregon State 1869-2010

The games are usually good, the fans definitely play-up the rivalry.

I read and hear much of the local media spin, but I don't have any insider knowledge about the player's feelings. I suppose, by the time they graduate the players feel the rivalry, if only vs the other team's players.

It's a good old rivalry, dating back to 1916, the University of Oregon leads the series 45-43-6

Edit note: Actually, the teams first played in 1894, and Oregon leads the series 59-46-10. The data base I used did not include the early years, I suspect because Oregon St. was originally named, Oregon Agricultural College.

Regarding my beloved Ducks; Dagnabbit, could've been better. Still, the Rosebowl is a pretty sweet consolation prize.

Thanks GDF. Now all that's left is for both of our teams to finish strong.
