EUGENE — College football isn’t happening in the Pac-12 this fall and when the sport will return in Oregon remains unclear.

“I know this is really, really hard,” Brown said Friday. “I know many of you love going to Autzen Stadium and watching our Oregon Ducks kick the Washington Huskies. I know many of us enjoy going to the Pendleton Roundup. Honestly it’s some of my favorite time and some of my favorite memories in Oregon. So I know that this is really, really hard.” We look forward to when we can continue to cheer on our favorite football team, and that we can go back to some semblance of normal, but this fall and this winter isn’t the time for that.”

Pac-12 reaches deal with Quidel Corporation for daily COVID-19 testing of athletes

the Pac-12 announced a deal with Quidel Corporation for conference-wide daily antigen tests for COVID-19, which deliver results in 15 minutes, of the conference’s athletes.

The Pac-12 called the agreement “a major step toward the safe return of sports competition.” Quidel’s Sofia 2 testing machines and tests are expected to be delivered to each of the Pac-12′s athletic departments by the end of the month.

"Conference universities will have rapid-results testing available by the end of the month. If you needed some encouragement -- this was it. And while there remain questions and obstacles, it felt a lot like the conference converted on third and 15 from deep in its own territory.

..... It’s important to note that Thursday’s news wasn’t just important to football. The same rapid-results testing could help students get back in classes on campus. It could help businesses eliminate the need to quarantine large swaths of employees.

..... The Pac-12 CEO Group will revisit its decision to postpone football. Bank on that. Scott confirmed that he’s been in contact with Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and they’ve talked about lining up their conference seasons. Presumably, there would be conference title games and a Rose Bowl meeting for the champions.

Could Ohio State be put back on the schedule and play at Autzen Stadium?

I’ll be told I’m getting way ahead of myself. After all, six of the conference universities sit in states that still currently have governmental restrictions that would prohibit a return to play. Also, there’s still a lot of unknowns when it comes to long-term health implications from coronavirus. But Thursday was a big win.
