There are over 850 college football programs across six division levels with 80,000 total collegiate college football players.

"Full ride scholarships cover more of your educational costs than full tuition, which would be very significant for most families. The best full ride scholarships are comprehensive, taking care of your total cost, including housing, food, books, school supplies, and travel. In financial terms, that means that a university is paying you an average of $200,000 per year, depending on the school's full tuition costs, so that you can get an education and excel in athletics too"

Washington State football coach Nick Rolovich tells WR Kassidy Woods joining unity group would create 'an issue'

Woods called to inform Rolovich that he was opting out of the 2020 season because he has sickle cell trait and would be at an enhanced risk amid the coronavirus pandemic. Rolovich told Woods he had no issue with the reasoning but then asked whether Woods would be part of the unity movement, a group of Pac-12 players threatening to opt out of this season if the league does not meet a set of demands. Woods said he would be supporting the movement.

"That's going to be an issue if you align with them as far as future stuff," Rolovich said, according to the Morning News. "The COVID stuff is one thing. But joining this group ... it's going to be different. If you say, 'I'm opting out 'cause of COVID and health and safety,' I'm good. But this group is going to change how things go in the future for everybody, at least at our school."

In the call with Rolovich, Woods said he wanted to continue working out with the team. Rolovich responded that Woods could not, saying it would send "a mixed message" to others and noting that resources would need to go to players who are planning to play this season.

Woods' mother, Jerline Woods, tweeted Sunday that multiple Washington State players who supported the unity movement were cut and told to clean out their lockers. Washington State, which said Sunday that no players had been removed from the team, is expected to issue a statement later Monday supporting Rolovich.

omg,.. a step in the right direction,.. Go Cougs!

Oregon’s Jevon Holland among Pac-12 players threatening to opt out of 2020 season; Penei Sewell among more than 25 teammates showing support

Canzano: Pac-12 player boycott hits the target but also misses the mark
    https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/john_canzano/2020/08/canzano-pac-12-player-boycott-hits-the-target-but-also-misses-the-mark.html

It takes no brains to come up with a proposal that is one sided.

But real brains to work out a deal that works for all sides.

I keep thinking about that when it comes to the demands of a growing group of Pac-12 players who are threatening a player boycott this football season. The player demands include enhanced insurance benefits, scholarship security, transfer flexibility, guarantees that non-revenue producing sports won’t be dropped and an investment in support of minority students on the conference campuses. Most of that, in some form, makes sense.... But the credible demands are submarined by the group’s threat to sit out the rapidly approaching season, and also, a request for a 50-50 revenue share of profits.

    Those things, fall flat.

-- a threat to sit out the upcoming season looks ridiculous. So does a 50-50 revenue share that would cause the elimination of a line of non-revenue producing sports if the conference were dumb enough to agree to it.

    {conference commissioner, Larry Scott} said,..Basically, I see you,
I hear you, but you’re now officially in a bureaucracy, so get ready to wait.

Part of the issue with the large list of player demands is that they can’t all be solved in the same place. There are campus issues, mixed with conference issues, mixed with NCAA issues, mixed with a few demands that would require congressional intervention. So threatening to sit out a season that is now slated to start in September feels a bit unrealistic. Very little of this has a chance to get done.

Also, that 50-50 revenue share demand is a farce. The operating costs of the non-revenue producing sports (water polo, volleyball, gymnastics, softball, baseball, etc.) essentially eat up more than 50 percent of that hypothetical share of the revenue. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that the athletic departments are barely getting by as it is.

a revenue share isn’t happening. And a threat to boycott a rapidly approaching season will soon lose steam. Remember, the players behind this movement will exit the college system rapidly themselves. They’ll be replaced with freshmen. The movement will lose momentum if change doesn’t happen in the coming months. And that’s the biggest problem with presenting an unreasonable number of requests.

Also, some key football players have already indicated that while they support the movement, they’re not sitting out the football season. That lack of unity will erode the threat in the coming weeks.

I admire a passionate movement with good intentions. But this one doesn’t feel like it can win big.

Only a superstar who knows he is going to be a high draft pick can afford to sit out.

Think about it, which apparently they haven't. You're a borderline draft pick. A team thinks you might be worth a flyer on at your position. Coach and GM say, "That guy's a troublemaker. Pick somebody else."

Sorry Duck there’s little to admire in childish actions. Your prediction of it’s failure is spot on and an example of their lack of maturity.

If he is that good why are Oregon and USC the only big time schools to offer? You would think LSU,. Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia would be offering him the moon.
