Two reasons. The mascot selection committee believed the Husky captured the true spirit of the Northwest because Seattle was recognized as the "Gateway to the Alaskan frontier". And UW uses the Husky breed, the Alaskan Malamute, because it is the largest and strongest of all Husky breeds.

Here's Dub 1, the current mascot as a pup.

GameDay Kickoff: LSU, Nebraska look to shake up playoff picture

There are only two games between ranked teams this weekend -- Alabama-LSU and Nebraska-Ohio State -- but both have big-time playoff implications.

 Usually when the Giants are in the playoffs, and eliminated,.. I'm bummed out and don't care or pay much attention thereafter,.. but the Cubs and Indians, perennial losers, their stories were too compelling to miss, I thought it was a dramatic and great World Series.

I'm glad David Ross can be remembered for his farewell home run, and not for being clobbered, knocked on his ass, by that two run scoring wild pitch, I don't remember ever seeing a play like that.

Ticket prices for game 7 were unbelievable, cheap seats starting at $2,000, rows 10-15 for $4,500+,.. front row seats, an astonishing $19,000.

Canzano: $10 million question for Ducks, Helfrich

.....ESPN Sports Business reporter Darren Rovell caused a stir in the first half when he tweeted, "There's talk heating up in Oregon that Phil Knight is ready to throw insane $10M+ a year money at a football coach. He's 78, wants a title.".....

....Don't know what $10 million a year buys a college booster these days. Maybe Tom Herman ($6 million) and a fleet of helicopters? Nick Saban ($7 million) and land? Or Jimbo Fisher ($5.25 million) and Bob Stoops ($5.55 million) as co-head coaches for a cool $10.8 million? Or maybe it's just Chip Kelly -- the sequel -- for $10 million annually?....

.....there are only two votes that count when it comes to Mark Helfrich's future. One belongs to Knight. The other, Pat Kilkenny, ( Oregon mega booster) . And I can't imagine two incredibly successful businessmen who have poured hard-earned dollars and lots of sweat equity into the program will see patience and understanding as the solution......

....There is nobody around Oregon more influential than Knight, and nobody more savvy than Kilkenny. These are men who built and ran incredibly successful businesses, then, as a sports hobby, threw together a $200 million basketball arena like two guys in the backyard drinking beers and building a deck.

They have a new project now.

 Duckland is in an uproar,... but I gotta stay calm,.. can't panic

serenity now,.. serenity now,.. serenity fucking now,..
