They are pretty friendly to visitors, whatever they say behind our backs. I passed through Oregon on vacation this summer and friendly people would notice my LSU license plates or my LSU cap and want to talk about:

    A. LSU football

    B. Louisiana cuisine

    C. The week they spent in New Orleans in the summer and thought they were going to die from heat prostration.

C really cracks me up. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area from Birmingham. The weather is amazing here (I live on the Peninsula) and it is normally very cool. The couple days a year it gets to 90 or close to it, people act like they are dying. I welcome them to visit the south so they can deal with heat and humidity.

That's the way it is here in Klamath falls,.. I hate 90 degrees, it drains my strength and makes me useless.

I gotta say when I first moved to the South from California the humidity + heat killed me. I was like WTF is this, 20 degrees cooler and I feel like its about 50 warmer.

Used to it now, New Orleans is fine for me.

Louisiana cuisine,.. I can only fantasize about how great it must be.

Northwest attitude? The SEC is pretty much reviled up here.

Know that a lot of people in the Northwest really love where they live, actually we believe, we are the center of the universe and all roads lead to us.

Oregon and Washington are very liberal, so there is red vs blue involved. There is bias and prejudice too. My observation,.. anti-South sentiment on the West Coast is a real and pervading thing. It's not very deep though, hate isn't even in the picture, most people here know little of the South and could care less.

I think the feelings are based on a loathing of racism by liberals, I know I've been very judgmental. In my tweens I'd get up on my high horse and chew somebody out for saying the wrong thing.

Oregonians could be described as politically correct and righteous. But,.. you can't generalize about people. When I joined on here I expected I'd be dealing with a bunch of hate spewing weirdos. What I found are a bunch of weirdos that are pretty much like everyone else I know.
