I don't hate Eli. Nothing personal at all against him. It's just that he's not a Tiger, therefore he's Tiger Bait.
Hate Eli? I don't hate Eli. I HATE the hyped up attention he gets from the media by virute of his last name. Anyone check the stats of Mauck vs. Eli before the Ole Miss game? Matt was higher in ALL of them except for total yards (ok, not career, but this season).... who got all the attention? Eli! Why? He's a Manning, no other reason. If Miami (of Ohio's) Ben Rothelesburger was named Ben Manning, he'd be winning the Heisman. B.J. (Symmons) Manning anyone?
Why would anybody hate Eli? Sure he went to Ole Miss instead of LSU but he is a Louisiana kid born and raised in New Orleans and the Mannings are a class family. Eli is 1-2 against LSU for his college career but I wish him well in the NFL. I would love to see the Saints get him and then actually surround him with the kind of teamates that his Dad never had when he was the Saint's QB.
Bengal B, if he does become a Saint . . . lets just hope they give this Manning a better offensive line to work with. I'm sure Eli won't be looking forward to running for his life every Sunday like Archie did. By the way, I agree with your post. The Mannings are a class family, and I can't blame Eli for going to Ole Miss and following in his dad's foot steps.
Re: Hate Eli? Think about what you said. Why would Rothelesburger or Symmons win the Heisman if their last name was Manning? Archie didn't win the Heisman. Peyton didn't win the Heisman even though he deserved it and Eli won't win the Heisman. The real judges of football talent, the NFL, will draft Eli before they draft Rothelesburger or Symmons and not because his name is Manning. Eli gets the media attention because he has led a mediocre Ole Miss team to a national ranking and a decent bowl game. If Eli had sucked and spent his college career on the bench he wouldn't get any media attention even if his first name was Jesus and his last name was Christ.
Maybe he would have gone to LSU if Saban had been the coach instead of DiNardo when Eli was being recruited.
This thread asks if we "hate" Eli Manning. Another thread asks which teams we "hate." Sorry folks, I guess I just don't get it. As for Eli Manning, I wish nothing but the best for him. The Mannings are quality people. Did I wish for LSU to beat Eli and Ole Miss every time they played. YES! But why "hate" someone because others have heaped attention on him? Seems to me he is a pretty good quarterback, but I happen to like the guy who wears the purple and gold this year.
I respect Eli as a football player, but hate the constant worship of the manning family. Enough is enough. On a side note, Eli walked into Lucy's Uptown (New Orleans Bar) Saturday night. He didn't get two steps in before I couldn't control myself and yelled tiger bait. Felt great. But It was he that had the last laugh, though. He was accompanied by two very nice looking young ladies. Yow!
