Pelosi is out; she does not retain some secret hold on the Speaker post. It is vacant, and Presidential Succession moves on to the Senate Pro-Tempore. In the writer's wet dream, that would be Democrat Patrick Leahy. He assumes that, with one-third of the Senate also vacated with postponed elections that the Democrats will take control of the Senate. But the governor's do hold the authority to fill vacated Senate seats, and while its possible the appointments would lead to a majority change, it may not.
