That's the thing, its not clean. Its marketing bullshit. Just like things aren't really free in life. Everything has a cost and an environmental impact.
This here, what is going on in Tejas right now, is a failure of coal and gas plants. The turbine generators locked up. People love to talk about history, but when you are in something historical, it might not always be that cool.
You 100% sure? Our grid is 30% wind and they froze. This is in North Texas. The reason coal fails is because you can't just start and stop them like Natural gas. They only bring coal online when power draw from Nat Gas and Wind starts to go too high. Coal cant just "light up". Coal is meant to be constantly running. This was the problem 12 years ago when Obama's 1st mandates started rolling out. They essentially forces coal plants into "standby mode". This is a failure of Texas and Texas alone. They relied far to much on "renewables" and should of had the Coal/Nat Gas plants spun up in time. But they are cheap and didn't want to waste money. Now look at us. Its like waiting until your homes pipes are frozen before you do anything. Its already too late.
You would be incorrect my friend. The "turbines" they are talking about are wind turbines, not coal and gas. The "failure" is the decommissioning of coal plants as base load and replacing them with wind and solar. Certain Fuels are good for certain uses. There has been 11 coal fired plants decommissioned since 2018, Coal, Nuclear, Oil and Gas are good for Base Load, which is a constant production of electricity Oil, Gas, and Hydro are good for "on demand" Load, because they can be ginned up in a short period of time. Wind and Solar are practically useless until they come up with a good way to store electricity. At the moment, they are used as base load supplement, but require gas fired plants to be up and running to cover outages. (no wind or no sun). What's happening in Texas, is the gas fired capacity is not sufficient to replace the loss of supplement to the base load usually contributed by wind turbines, .. because they froze up.
Nonsense??? .... Look Mr Contrarian ... COAL is the cheapest energy available. So right off the bat your post is nonsense, and contradictory. 11 Coal plants in Texas have closed since 2018 because of CO2 regulation and Obama's war on coal. Just like with Nuclear, coal is being regulated out of existence, but there is NO replacement for Coal except NG, Oil and Nuclear. Wind and Solar .... as you noted ... are useless until they can store its intermittent production. At best they work well in an area with NG Base load that can be ramped up quickly and that has reserve capacity to replace the entirety of Wind generation. OTOH ... I'm in total agreement on Nuclear. I don't know why we don't have more of them. As I noted to Mancha ... Base Load - Nuclear, Coal, Oil, Natural Gas. Demand Load - Oil, Gas, and Hydro Solar and Wind are nothing more than political pet projects subsidized by the Global Warming Nuts and propped up by the Globalists who seek global control by controlling the supply of energy. It's a great idea, but they are going to have to figure out how to store the energy in a clean, safe way.
Lots of people are saying loss of wind power isn't to blame. Some point to the fact that Texas has it's own electric grid and we couldn't pull power from the east and west coast. Our Gov said he was going to look into if/why ERCOT fucked up. Bunch of political speak right now. Texas doesn't punish energy. IDK. If you have an historical weather condition, something is going to break. How do you know you are ready for something that has never happened?
BTW, Can I get a road condition update for North Collin County? Specifically 75 going north. At some point I have to head to Sherman.
