There is more to it than that. Nebraska is full of those fucking things and doesn’t lose power on 2”inches of snow.

I can't drive & my wife won't drive on snow covered roads. I walked to the store to buy some beer & milk. About a 1/2 mile round trip. 20 degrees with no wind so it was tolerable. Listened to the Eagles greatest hits.

Well .. in all fairness, my mom doesn't support relying on clean energy. Oh sure, put up your own windmill or throw up some solar panels, but the grid should be driven by COAL for base load, with Natural Gas as variable load.

That is nonsense. The grid should be powered by the cheapest most efficient reliable source available. The supply of cheap abundant energy is the key to modern civilization. As technology changes so should the source. At this time it’s combined cycle natural gas. Nuclear fission is also one of the most important though government over regulation is a problem. New designs are cheaper safer and better than the old. Fusion may one day be the ultimate but there’s a lot of development yet required.
Wind does have potential but storage is still a challenge. What you all complain about maintenance and replacement of wind is mirrored in fossil fuel plants. The utilities spend significant time and money each year in outages repairing, replacing and upgrading facilities. It’s just better hidden by the infrastructure in place.
Rather than government....any government left or right telling us how to produce electricity the market should lead. Technology changes ride the changes
