Texas is ALWAYS overrated.. they just dont play anyone other than OU, The Big 12 is the most overrated conference around, at this time.. a few years ago, yeah, they were good. LSU is underranked considering all of the people they have coming back. I think they would be a good 3-5 spots higher if Saban hadnt left.. the only knock they could come with on LSU is "After losing Nick Saban, it's hard not to think LSU settled for Les with Miles".. whereas the rest for the rest of the teams they list all of the spots that they will have to fill.
The Hype for Meyer is pretty unrealistic. The guy is not inheriting a huge amount of talent. If you keep this in perspective, the first thing that an AD in the SEC should ask himself when looking at any football coaching prospect is, "can this coach win an SEC Championship?" Meyer will be facing Spurrier, Fulmer, Richt, as well as Bowden, who will all have about the same amount of talent or better. While I think he will likely beat two of them, to expect him to beat all four would be pretty unrealistic.
yet another testament as to why you should never trust fox news murdhoch is a great entertainer/sensationalist...informer? no
They were top 10 classes at the time, but Zook had too many recruits crash and burn. Zook's fall off rate with his JUCO recruits alone was about 50%. Meyer will have decent talent to work with, but Florida is not as loaded as the recruiting class rankings might have previously implied. If you match up the rosters head to head, both Georgia and Tennessee are sitting in better shape. Spurrier will be dealing with about the same as Florida, with even more unproven talent as South Carolina graduated a boat load of seniors, especially on defense. Bowden just reloads every year, and I don't think that Bowden has lost to Florida in two straight games since the mid-80s.
Right. Texas started 7th/8th and finished 4th/5th in the polls. That's not overrated. But you can keep sticking to the old broken record that was true in the past, but not in the present. This will be our year to do it. OU, as mentioned above, is losing a ton of players and basically all of their leaders. Texas is returning just about everyone. The Big 12 North looks like it might be down again next year, so Texas will also have their best shot in awhile to win the Big 12. You could not be more wrong on this subject. Chris Simms started one game his freshman season, and that was one where Applewhite was throwing up on the sidelines every 5 minutes. Even in Simms' sophomore year, Major Applewhite was the starting quarterback until he got hurt for the remainder of the season (with 3 games to go) in the Texas Tech game. Major Applewhite was not the starter in Simms' junior season. He was not benched for a "hot-shot freshman"...he was benched for a "hot-shot junior". Since you're so sure on this topic as well, maybe you could tell me why "hot-shot freshman" Vince Young didn't see the field during Simms' senior season and didn't get the bulk of the playing time until the OU game last season. Mack Brown made a mistake in Simms' junior season and he has learned from it. But even with that, your statements on the situation could not be more wrong. Roy Williams? We didn't even have him this year. Vince Young improved as a passer this year from last year. It didn't show too much in the stats because he was bailed out of a lot of bad passes last year by having the receiving corps that he did. This year it was a young receiving corps that really, really struggled for just about the whole season. I think it will continue to improve, and so will the wide receivers. Will it be amazing next year? Nope, not at all...but it should be good enough. As for the "lucky games" argument, I could argue that LSU's team last year really wasn't that good because they got by in "lucky games". You, of course, would argue that LSU's wins were "close" and Texas' were "lucky". On Benson, he will be a big loss but Texas shouldn't have a huge problem replacing him. It will be Selvin Young's turn to step in, and before he got hurt in the Arkansas game this year, he was going to get a lot of carries right with Benson. In the North Texas game (his only game of the season, really), he switched off drives with Benson in the first half and had 102 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 12 carries. He'll also add an extra dimension that Texas did not have with Benson, a pass catcher out of the backfield.
Maybe Chris' daddy would have cut off the donations??? I don't know, don't really care. I can honestly say I don't keep up with Texas athletics, although I do watch the Red River Blowout - uh, I mean Shootout :sob: every year if I'm not at an LSU game. The basketball team used to be fun to watch when Tom Penders was there. I do know Mack Brown ought to give Jeff Bower a commission off his new contract, because it took USM helping them out to finally get a BCS bowl bid.
I think Texas winning the Rose Bowl will go very, very far. Players might start finally buying into Mack's system and start believing that he can win big games. Texas losing to OU every year was a mental thing, and I expect them to atleast win that game, but not necessarily go undefeated. I'm still not sold on Mack's coaching abilities but next year will be the time for him to prove it.
