How does media hype account for 10 votes? I understand that the perveying opinion here is that the media is biased in favor of the West/Pac10. I assure you that a bulk of fans from EVERY conference believe that the media is biased in favor of another conference. Out of the final contenders this last year, which was from the Pac10? It was Big10, SEC, and an independent.

Schools hype their players for obvious reasons, it's not all media. That same media is also a double edged sword and the player they love one week, is the player they eviscerate the next.

I don't know about everyone else but i think the bias is only towards USC and UCLA... The schools in LA. The bias against the other pac 10 schools is valid since no one really cares about them

Despite our loss to utla in December, there is no reason to have bias toward a team that has no real football history to speak of. Here's to hoping they make another appearance in the Emerald Bowl.

    I'll leave it at that.

And these are the only two things I really care about. These are the things that will ultimately help your ball club. That is the main reason why we have stayed on top of the CF world. Recruits see our 2003 NC ring and the likes of Marcus Spears, Joseph Addai, Andrew Whitworth, JaMarcus Russell, LaRon Landry, Dwayne Bowe (the last three soon to be), etc. picked so high in the draft that they want to come here. And can you blame them? Im sure that winning the Hesiman is a goal for most players (such as Jimmy "The Emu" Clausen, who stated that he will win four :dis: ), but ultimately they want to be coached into and play themselves into a high draft pick and clearly LSU can do that for them.

I don't think winning the Heisman is a goal for most players. Most don't have the talent, the position, or the desire for that particular award. For those who do, it can be a goal as well as winning NC's. USC has 7 Heisman's and 6 uncontested NC's (11 if you go back to 1928 and consider contested titles) since 1936.

In all fairness, Jimmy said he/the irish will win 4 NC's, not that he would win 4 Heisman's. If you have a link to a confirming quote, I'd be interested to see it.

As far as being on top of the college football world.....well, it can have it's downfalls too. Remember the further you climb up the pole, the more others can see your azz.....isn't that right Larry Coker?

The Heisman trophy is such a joke that I rarely even pay attention to the hype anymore. In the above article, JD Booty was 1st on the list. Why? Because the media says so. And why does the media say so? Because he goes to the right school (either USC, ND or Michigan), is a QB and has been prepped (read hyped) to be a contender since before he ever stepped on a college field*. Has he shown any extraordinary ability on the field to warrant Heisman hype in his 2nd year? No, certainly nothing like McFadden has shown, but McFadden doesn't go to the right school and he doesn't play QB. They might as well let People Magazine start selecting the Heisman winner.:dis:

*To validate this theory, just you watch: If Jimmy Clausen puts up big numbers in any of his 1st 2 or 3 games, he'll move ahead of McFadden on the "Heisman Watch" lists.

Now that is one of the best suggestions I've heard in a long time. They could combine it with the best looking man issue.

The shame of the Heisman is that linemen never get serious consideration. Offensive linemen like John Hannah and Alan Faneca were among the best players in the country.
