huh? Booty is an average QB at best. If he even gets close to the top 3 Im gonna switch to soccer.:hihi:
Vball, I disagree with you on the SEC Heisman thing. If it was anything close to "fair", then McFadden should have won it. I know Troy Smith was good, but he only made his throws, that's what he's supposed to do. But McFadden played for a CRAPPY team like Arkansas and almost pulled off a NC appearance. He was the star of the show, he carried the team, he did HB, TB, WR, even F'in QB, PR, KR. He did it all at Arkansas, hell, he might even start punting next year (instead of that joke of a punter they have). Even more, you said the SEC is a "defensive conference", well, you said it. I guess you agree that we have the best defenses in college football? If you do, watch McFadden run all over the "SEC" the past season. ALL OVER the defenses, he killed opponents with his long runs, and no one could really stop him or catch him when he takes off. Hell, he even ran all over a VERY GOOD Wisconsin defense with a FREAKING INJURY. To conclude, the Heisman is biased...:thumb:
First...Not only do I not want to see an LSU player win the Heisman, I want the award to disappear from the college landscape. It may have meant something years ago but hasn't for many years. Second...If the award is supposedly for the best player, then why does it end up in the hands of an offensive player? ...and last...The one year we had the best offensive player in the country (Peyton Manning), the award was given to who?...a DEFENSIVE player! (Charles Woodson) If you go back and look you'll find that 174 voters listed Manning as 3rd. Many others didn't even list him in the top three. Why?...because they try to help their choice by lowering the top competition. It's all BS, therefore I could care less about the damn thing. I can understand why you care due to Bush, Lienart, Slasher Simpson, and others. Do you really think the media would ever turn it's back on a state with 30,000,000 residents? That's why a guy like Booty is even mentioned. I'm sure ESPN already has a plan to show him destroying Pac-10 powerhouses like Stanford, Arizona, Washington State, and Oregon. I'm sure it's a recruiting tool and very well may be the reason that McKnight chose USC over LSU. I'm sure that PC used that many times (including the telephone call) to sway the decision. That's fine. If a kid is more about himself than his team, he's better suited in Californication than here.
I didn't say he had a Heisman year last year. He definitely stumbled (literally) in a few games and the utla loss really provoked those who wanted Sanchez to play. The Rose Bowl game IMO, was a breakout game for him. I'm saying that this year he will be much improved and worthy of attention. Time may prove me wrong but he has some very interesting targets. Just how much do soccer shoes cost in La? If Booty is in the top 3, I'll send you a brand new pair. :hihi:
Hurricane, with me you have to read carefully cause I choose my words that way. I did not say "fair". I said that Troy Smith belonged in New York. That's different than saying he deserved to win. There were 3 players in New York last December. I happen to agree that McFadden was prolly the best player but coming off a fresh injury against SC, he carried the ball 9 times for just 42 yards and that ultimately hurt him. I also said the SEC is known as a defensive conference. That's different than saying I agree to it being the best in all of college football. The point is/was that QB's and RB's are the attention positions. When the ball is snapped most people, including the cameraman, are looking at them and occasionally the WR's. That's just the way it is. You'd be hard pressed to find ANY individual award that isn't somehow biased and that's why I'm not a huge fan of them. Think about commission pay for the "Top Sales Rep". You think that person got there all by herself? Not likely but still the only person who gets to cash the check.
A break in playing definitely can have disadvantages (Even a timeout in basketball) and I've seen crazy things happen to teams who were winning after a bye week. When you're on a roll you do want to stay in rhytm but I agree with you and believe the "Talk" made tOSU come in thinking they were going to do to Floriday what Florida did to them. :thumb: Me too. USC will be able to go toe-to-toe with any team next year. They have Nebraska and another legitimate OOC game (Nooo, not Notre Dame- that'll be a masacre even though it's on the road). Here's a scenario.....Booty (By a miracle) wins the Heisman and squares off against LSU in the Dome and LSU wins the NC. :hihi: That would teach him and that other guy who recently became a Trojan they should've stuck with home-cookin. :thumb: Oh, and at least vball will get to have some good cookin at LSU tailgates.
The Heisman isn't going to disappear any time soon. Too much money in the show, the advertising, and the NCAA hierarchy LOVES it. Like I said to Hurricane, QB's and RB's are the glamour positions in football. They also touch the ball far more often than a D player and a mistake on their parts are often much more costly. That's why they make the big $$ when they get to the NFL. There are also individual awards for D players, receivers, kickers, etc. Didn't say I cared, just entered into the conversation about likely candidates. But yes, I am proud of the achievements of the USC Heisman winners including Mike Garrett who is our current AD and RB who is the biggest reason I watched so many Saints games last year. You think winning that Heisman may have helped (not defined) put some butts in seats? What oj did at SC had nothing to do with his personal life some 25 years later nor my current opinion of him. I'm sure Coach Miles would use every recruiting advantage he could as well. That's what coaches do and he is proving to be a great coach AND recruiter. :thumb: As far as players being individuals. Well, most of those with potential select colleges that they believe are NC contenders and eventually help them get to the NFL where they will be paid as individuals, not teammates. There is nothing wrong or unusual about a high school kid wanting to play college ball to win a NC with an eventual eye for NFL glory. Not sure how that suits California but okay.
You have to come in with a big-time reputation and then have a fabulous year to win the Heisman. Doucet doesn't have the early rep. He's going to have a fabulous year, but it's going to earn him a top-20 draft slot instead of a trophy.
