The wood duck, mallard, and greenwing teal were mounted by a guy in Dutchtown, LA. The mottled duck and redhead were mounted by a guy in Tomball, TX. Here is the link to his website (my 2 birds are on his site). I will be taking the pintail, from a few posts up, to him pretty soon. Check out the bird gallery. This guy does some of the best work I have ever seen.

The mount with the drake wood duck feeding the hen, who is inside a log, an acorn is awesome. I would like to have one similar to that one day.

Ever seen the wood duck's cousin? Its a mandarin duck, mostly found in Asia, but they have been found in Alaska on occasion. Also the UK is trying to start a local population of them as well.

Probably the most ornate duck in the world!

thats why I asked. thats my cousin im guessing. I used to live next to him and we trapped back in those woods and Id often watch him teach himself taxidermy.

he'd sell the pelts and still does.

I hope it rained a lot and you don't normally stand in the water. That has to be effin cold on freezing days. How feasible would it be to put a blind in the ground...or moving what you have to pond's egge. Wouldn't stand out as much either but if you're killing pintails it's obviously not a detriment.

That picture is post card worthy.

I like the way the dog sits too. Not on her hip. She's raised a litter?

It is in the middle of a rice field, and yes it is always in the water. That is just one of the properties on the lease. I'm in a group of 6 hunters. The "lease" is technically comprised of about 25-30 groups of 6. The lease manager builds the blinds and manages the flooding of the fields, so we really don't get much say so in blind placement, brushing, etc. I'm good with that though. A lot of times late in the season I will move away from the blinds and just try to huddle down in some vegitation on the levies and hunt from there.

There were 3 flocks of gray ducks (large flocks 35-50 birds ea.) that did flare off (I think because of the blind). If those 3 flocks had comitted all the way it would have been an easy limit day. But......that is late season hunting. I was happy with a little time in the blind with the pup and a few ducks.

I appreciate that. I am planning to get it framed and put it up in my office with all the duck mounts.

Ocassionally she will sit on her hip too. She has not had pups yet, but should be going into heat any day now. I will probably let her have a litter when she is about 4 yrs old. Just 2 right now, and I want to work more on her hunting before she welps a litter.
