Really and truly, I think if a team is better then the other one, it doesnt matter if they play a day game or a night game. Its basically about the fans. The fans have a better time and are more rauchous at nite. Therefore, a more rauchous crowd, equals a more phsyched atmosphere, equals a better home field advantage. But, lets be real, even if lets say LSU played UNT in a day game LSU would still kill them by 50 b/c they are better. Case and point is the MSST game last year.
LSU is 187-62-4 (.747) at night in Tiger Stadium compared to a 16-21-3 (.437) record during the day since 1960. But its not a big difference.
I love Miles. In fact, I think he is a great coach. But this whole Saban love fest will trickle out. We will go 9-2 this year and all of the "Saban would have gone undefeated" fans will coming shining out. Our two losses will be shown out onto the light while our wins will be put under the rug. I just see that happening.
Then again, you have to look at the percentage of the games that played at nite. The majority of the games are at nite, therefor the percentage will be inflated for that. The talent level of the teams that played those particular day games. What if a lot of those day games were played in an era in which LSU was down and were just playing better teams? I know one for a fact was the LSU 03 team that lost to Florida. Then again, they won a day game against UGA that same year. Other than that I'd have to look. We all know that the stadium is much more hyped at nite, but still if its day or night the talent on the field makes that call.
I have to agree. At this point there are many fans who are bitter at Saban for leaving. But, if and when, b/c it is inevitable that LSU will lose at least one with the brutal schedule of the SEC, they do lose the people will do the show Saban would have thing. I agree with you. Miles is in a no win with the fans in my eyes.
6-2 in home day games since 2000. Why b/c the talent was much better. They are something like 24-2 in home nite games in that span. With about 33% of those coming against schools that shouldnt even be on the same field. So either way the numbers are inflated. I'm not saying there isnt a mistique, b/c there is. But, every year LSU plays atleast 3 teams at home that are garbage. Those games happen to be at nite. Those are games they would win any time of the day.
I have enough confidence in Coach Miles to not expect 2 losses. I've said it before, if given a choice between Saban from MSU and Miles from OSU, I would pick Miles. I see no reason not to expect Coach to be even more succesful than Saban was. You are right about some of the fans, unfortunatley. It's not a no win situation, though, all he has to do is win. That rule applies for any coach.
It's tough to gauge what kind of spot he is in. On one hand he gets to come to a place that is arguably a top 15 program of all time. It has a rabid fan base and you are guaranteed sell outs for every home game. You have great facilities, a pretty pay check, great golf weather its a dream for most coaches. On the other hand, your leaving a place where expectations werent through the roof. Basketball was and is the main sport at OKST. They just enjoyed giving Stoops hell on a yearly basis and making it to a small bowl and making a little coin. At LSU, the football expectations are higher. With all the success of Saban and his ability to build the program up from shambles has gotten the fans in a frenzy and they want another title. Therefore, anything less would be a disappointment.
If there are LSU fans that choose to back John Brady, then Miles can get by with a 9-2... BUT if the QB play is good, there will be no 9-2... more like 11-0
