Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Anyone have any information regarding the position that Campbell is being recruited for? Barksdale, an alum of the same high school, was a coveted DT until he reached LSU. Now, he is playing OT. I've seen sights that list Campbell as an OT and others that show him as a DT. Looking at LSU's roster, IMO, seems to be neck-n-neck regarding O Line and D Line needs. Though, the D Line is losing 4 or 5 players this season.
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Barksdale enrolled early, and was told he would make a fine DT, but could be an amazing OT and would see the field sooner. He chose to make the switch. Campbell is similar in that he can play either & excel, but Campbell is a better DT than Barksdale was. I suspect Campbell will switch to OT, although we & everyone else are recruiting him as a DT.
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Gotcha. Thanks for your input. Campbell would be a vertically-challenged OT, IMO. He is listed as 6'0" tall. I could see him stuffing the middle to affect the run, though. I guess we'll see.
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Here is a clip of Campbell running a WR drill He starts at the 0:22 mark http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/amp-linemen-do-the-wr-gaunlet-43005
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Must be misprint in article. I do see 6'5"/ 317 lbs. at Rivals. Thanks.
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell Here is a clip of a dance off between the West (white) team and the East (black) team. Davenport (#47), the big guy on the left (white team), and Campbell (#73) the big guy on the right (black team) appear to be the two most lively personalities, each urging along this dance-off between their two respective teams. It seems that Davenport and Campbell have similar personalities and very well might become good friends. http://rivals.yahoo.com/video/recruiting-football/amp-dance-off-east-vs-west-43007
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell For the Army AA game, his coach is thinking about having him play both ways: Dec 30 --Campbell could play both ways Massive Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech lineman William Campbell has been working with both the offensive and defensive lines during practice, and [coach Terry] Smith said the 6-5, 317-pounder will probably go both ways. ... "He's enormous, he's explosive and he's really athletic for a big guy," Smith said. "He's a fast learner. He's a fun-spirited kid who loves the game and that's why we're able to move him on both sides of the ball because he can pick it up. He just enjoys playing the game." http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=894883
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell This is what they wrote about Campbell's performance on Tuesday: He is a full grown man out on the gridiron even when compared to some of the nation's best offensive and defensive linemen. Most of the centers really struggled with the snap for two reasons - one they are new at it and two Campbell was bringing the most powerful bull rush they have ever seen. http://www.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=894904
Re: 5 Star DT William Campbell This is what the wrote about Campell after the first practice: Campbell's athleticism is very unique for a player of his size. He was the toughest player to block on a good defensive line for the East squad. Listed at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Campbell is massive, but he can really move. He also has the versatility to play on the offensive side of the ball - a trait that the East coaching staff will likely take advantage of. http://rivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=894510
