The Corps has delayed opening the Morganza again, now pushed back to the 9th. Don't know why, but it has to be good news.

That's exactly it. Bad news for the people in Arkansas, but the Arkansas River overflowing at Ft Smith (I think)

The spillways were put in specifically for the protection of New Orleans. It’s status as one of the biggest and most important ports in the country and world are why. In the1930s New Orleans was also a major city bigger than Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and was the most important southern city.

i live downtown and walk over to the levee weekly to gawk at it. its terrifying.

last week there was a huge alligator sunning at the top of the levee between the bridge and the belle of BTR. it was awesome. i am kind of a city boy and dont get to hang out with gators that much

i once saw a ginormous alligator - looked like a dinosaur - swallowing a dolphin along the Houma navigational canal just south of Dulac about 15 yrs ago. It was chugging the dolphin down it's snout like the dolphin were a sardine. The snout was longer than the dolphin. It was a ferocious scene. Wish i would have filmed it.

p.s. i had estimated the gator to be 20+ ft long, but apparently that would be a world record...who knows
