Bowe wouldn't be a very good fit for the Saints' needs. He is too similar to Colston and Copper. IMO, Davis would make more sense but may not be the value they like. I think they should go defense, either corner, linebacker, or defensive tackle but I don't follow them on a daily basis.
I disagree because what the Saints need is a guy who can go over the middle and make the tough catch. Im not a Copper fan and while I am a huge Colston fan, he is a bit injury prone, so a "tough catch" guy will be needed just in case, IMO. Im think either the Chargers or the Broncos. I feel Bowe and Buster both would be great fits in either place, but I especially like Buster in Denver. I think "Cutler to Davis" would be heard an awful lot should that happen.
Davis is not now nor has he ever been anything like Devery. Devery had to learn the WR position completely after being moved from RB. He was a blazer with shotty hands and he ran horrible routes. He learned a ton his last two years and bettered his route running skills and got himself on an NFL roster. He is STILL learning the position and how to catch the football with his hands. Buster on the other hand, has been a pretty sure target from day one. He maybe dropped 3-4 balls in four years. He runs great routes and is a 4.4 guy. If Bowe was not on this team Davis would be a first rounder even if his stats were exactly the same.
Well, if the Saints take Bowe in round one, I would be kinda pissed, because they have much bigger needs. But I think he would fit in perfectly. Colston is a big possession receiver with great hands. He cannot run away from anyone, but he has proved his value. The Saints are going to force Devery to be thier #2. He is the field stretcher with inconsistent catching abilities, but to damn explosive to keep off the field. Bowe would fit in perfectly because he is a cross of the two. He is not blazing fast, but runs well after the catch and can seperate from defenders. He is big and can catch the ball in traffic, runs great routes and since his lasic surgery catches the ball very well. Having him on the field with Colston and Henderson would give the Saints two very sure handed receivers, one of which can stretch the field or go over the middle, a guy nobody in the league can cover for any amount of time, and a guy that even though they can all cover him he makes the catches. I'd say this would be a very difficult 3 to defend. The only proble would be with experience, because they are all so young.
Nice post I couldnt argue with 2 LSU WR taking on huge rolls with the Saints. That would be awesome to see. However, the Saints are going to be in an awkward spot, IMO. Before free agency, there was no doubt in my mind we would take a CB or LB based on team needs. The Saints addressed the needs on the LB position and Horn is released. So now the WR position needs some pieces for next year. So I think the Saints will take the best CB or WR on their board. I think the Cowboys have Jarrett and Bowe as toss ups and the other falls to the Saints. Unless, Chris Houston and Aaron Ross fall past the Eagles and Jets who both are in the hunt for a CB. I want Aaron Ross if he is their because I think the CB position will be crucial for the Saints D next year and we would still have a shot at Davis who could help take away some slack from Bush on Punt Returns. Wishful thinking but it could happen.
I think all of this talk of who the Saints should take is very interesting, as, most likey, our # 1 targets at CB and LB will likely be taken by pick # 27. I will say that should Patrick Willis fall to us, then we should take him before Goodell can say "The Saints are on the clock". Willis looks like an immediate impact LB and since he is known to have a great attitude, would be an ideal fit with Sean Payton. Ofcourse, the odds are very much against it that he will even drop to # 15, much less # 27. The problem is that McCauley will be available and alot of people will want us to take him, but its hard to justify taking a player who was benched during his senior season for poor play in the first. Then you have Aaron Ross who could be a great CB, but he turns 25 this year which can present a problem. So would I have a problem with the Saints picking Bowe in the first? Sort of, but lets face it, last year we picked a position that wasnt a need position # 2 overall and I dont belive many people will argue with the results. Plus this is such a deep CB class, we could very well end up with atleast one starter from the second round on.
