Tart played a really good game against Dorsey. I bet if you asked the kid, he would not state that he dominated anyone. It's a credit to him the way he played, but Dorsey was a big factor in that game. Linemen do not have big games against teams that spread defenses. Safeties and linebackers end up making mare of the plays.
another thing... TARTT CLEARS THE AIR: Florida OG Jim Tartt dispelled any rumors that Louisiana State DT Glenn Dorsey took some extra hits during the Gators' loss to the Tigers on Saturday night. Rumors circulated after the game that Dorsey had taken a cheap shot on Tartt by poking him in the eye. "He was just pass rushing," Tartt said. "He was just swinging his arms and his thumb went up in my eye. It wasn't a big deal."
Yeah ole GD is just an average lineman he'll finish the year with only 70 plus tackles and 10 plus sacks. He'll be a top 5 NFL pick come draft time. I wish we had several more of those "dominated" linemen. :dis:
When did a lineman poking another lineman in the eye become dirty? That's like mt grandmother asking "why are all those men piling on top of that one guy".
WR drops kept the game closer than it should have been. A good lead would have forced FLA to become more one dimensional and opened up more opportunities for Dorsey and the D.o:
He was schemed around in almost every play. All kinds of doubles and chips. Hey, that's to be expected and Florida did it better than anyone. I'll mention that I also saw some very near chop blocks. When he was one on one, he got nice pushes in pass protection.
Skip Bayless is at best a contrarian and at worst (and often) a little weasel muckraker who can never get enough attention. I used to read Skip pretty often when he wrote with the Dallas papers. I was a Cowboy fan in my youth. (Don't worry, I got over it). After a few columns I realized that he wasn't really that clever. Just a shtick merchant who loved bad puns and alliteration. Two articles by Skip Bayless told me everything I needed to know about the man. When Tom Landry died in 2000, Skip was writing for the Chicago Tribune. The day after the Coach's death every newspaper in America was pouring out tributes to a man that was universally respected, loved, and maybe a little misunderstood. Not Skip! He had to choose the day after the man's death to proclaim that Landry "never got it" and "couldn't deal with his players". (never mind that nearly every former Cowboy{with a couple of notable exceptions} spoke lovingly of their coach. This act alone displayed Skip's credentials as a first rate jackass. But there was more to come. A week and a half later TV Guide put Tom Landry's picture on their cover. A fitting tribute to a guy whose team played on national TV more than any other. I bought it, took it home and read the loving tribute article. It could have been written by his wife, his son, his Pastor, or Roger Staubach. It was that syrupy. I look to the top of the front page to see who the author is: SKIP BAYLESS! If I never again see this fraudulent waste of skin on TV again it will be too soon. He is the poster-boy for everything wrong with info-tainment. Bayless made a living out of bashing Tom Landry and then years later cozys up with Barry Switzer. When Switzer and Troy Aikman can't get along, Bayless conjures up rumors that Aikman is gay. He has been run out of every town he worked in, but ESPN finds air time for this fool. AND he went to Vanderbilt!
That's just dumb. Extrapolate his stats against FL over a 12 game season and you get 60 tackles and 6 sacks, which would be shoe-in all-america numbers for a defensive tackle. Those are defensive end #s. Proving once again that people are idiots.
Skip Bayless is a DBag, I agree with 3% of his opinions. How he's still reporting for ESPN?...I guess people want to see the knee-jerk reaction from other analysis, when he runs his stupid rants. The "Hot Seat" with Skip Bayless, is a joke...just yesterday, he was crying about USC not in the top 5.
I have an explanation for this. 1) The defensive zero blitzing and had a 4 man rush virtually the entire game. There was no stunting or anything complex. Therefore there is no pressure on the QB or the line. The OL has the advantage if the D is only bring 4 rushers and are not stunting or anything. 2) The defensive scheme by Pelini was not to pressure the QB (which I didn't care for) until the last couple possessions. The plan for the DL was to keep Tebow contained during the pass rush so that Tebow would have less options of scrambling. Basically let him throw the ball 5-10yds instead of scrambling in the open field. Therefore the DL's didn't rush hard till the end when UF was forced to throw down field. At this point you didn't want to give him time to throw and were willing to give up the 10yd scramble versus the 20yd pass. 3) Because of the spread option the 4 DL's didn't stop the run because again the OL has the advantage. No blitz packages, will open the run up, which happened. I didn't really care for the overall defensive plan but it was effective to a degree. I think it will be something different and more mixed up if we see them in the SECCG. But it wasn't Dorsey that got handled necessarily but it was the defensive scheme that didn't allow him to attack. If you notice during UF's passing plays, the DL's where just standing the OL's up and playing handsies with them. They were content in letting Tebow throw.
