I was thinking the same thing earlier, I would almost rather just play and crush USC than win a national championship just to shut every one up about USC o:
No, most other teams/fans in the country watching ESPN would think that USC and LSU should play for the NC and not even bother with the season. With some of the off the field issues LSU had in the off season (as most teams do), would you have wanted the media spotlight then? You have to take the good and the bad. Just watch ESPN tomorrow and their story on Todd McNair for proof of that. And if CLM guides your Tigers to another NC this year or even the next and LSU becomes the ESPN media darling, will you complain about how much hype you are getting or how you wish they would stop showing so many LSU stories? I doubt it and you shouldn't. ESPN is a business. They want ratings, money, and advertising. They'll show whatever adds to their bottom line. Good luck on your season this year and enjoy your opener tonight. :geauxtige
What does one have to do with the other? We should all be glad each time ESPN actually shows a live sporting event instead of newspaper writers shouting nonsense at each other.
vball, I don't know your age and won't guess. I wonder if you remember ESPN before the ABC/Disney merger. Picture a channel devoted to giving sports fans the most possible content without a slick attitude attached. A network that wouldn't have let Stephen A. Smith even set foot in one of their buildings. A wonderful place that valued "rational, factual, informative" programming and talent over "loud, controversial and possibly inaccurate." ESPN has become so powerful and self-satisfied that it wraps empty hype in a brightly-colored package and sells it as actual content. It becomes more apparent every year that they don't respect the intelligence of their audience. I hate ESPN and aside from live events and highlights refuse to tune in and have my intelligence insulted. Hell, even DURING live baseball telecasts I have to listen to Joe Morgan spew a bunch of lies. I could go on and on but my blood pressure is starting to spike.
uscvball..."And if CLM guides your Tigers to another NC this year or even the next and LSU becomes the ESPN media darling, will you complain about how much hype you are getting or how you wish they would stop showing so many LSU stories? " This line suggests that USC is getting attention based on them winning multiple championships and that LSU should expect the same if they win another title. The problem with this is that USC has won only ONE BCS championship. (The AP trophy ranks right up there with the Heisman as the two most worthless awards in college sports.) USC should be getting a lot of attention...you won't find many Tiger fans that don't believe they have a great team. The problem once again is they get too much attention to the point that it's more Entertainment Tonight instead of Sportscenter. Just more typical overhyped Californication...Hollywood is trash but it sells!
A. Vball- what's up with all of this stuff lately? You make it sound like you're leaving! B. I just wanted to get my post in before the thread dies- OUTRAGE.
If he said that he's really an idiot cause Miles doesn't even vote in the AP poll and, in the coaches' poll, LSU had 4 votes.
LOL...I was having dinner w/ the wife and told her, the second I saw this, that there would be a 5 page long thread on TF.com next time I checked. What I love---L-O-V-E---about the #2 ranking is the simplicity it gives us fans...2 whole steps to an ultimately successful (and satisfying) season: 1. Stay #2 2. Settle things on the field with (ugh) "those people" from the Left Coast Life rarely works out as perfectly as we'd like it to, but damn if I'd give at least a year of my life for this to come to pass... (PS-In case you're wondering, I have 0 concern about losing should these two things happen this season.)
I'm tellin y'all things in Cali have the potential to go awry. Just today, it was anounced that OL Nick Howell will undergo hernia surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2007 season. Jordan Campbell could also be done for the year- both shoulders injured.
