It's pretty obvious that people don't like New Orleans because of New Orleanian arrogance. Not real sure why you make this comment and direct it at a guy who spent the first 30 years of his life in Monroe/West Monroe and the last three in Baton Rouge. I know exactly where rural parishes get their money from because I stayed involved with our area representatives. It's a big reason why the North LA delegation will rarely argue against giving money to the Saints. They know where the money comes from when they can't get it from Washington.

I don't have to. There are several studies and articles available for anyone who cares to risk their opinion and knows how to use google. A quick search reveals articles indicating that just last year the Saints economic impact was over $500 million, with $22 million being in state taxes alone.

Roughly the same number that are big LSU fans. Not real sure what point you're making here.

I didn't miss it. I just don't dismiss it like you. I just don't get you making the connection between the Saints and these professors because the money is not linked. That's simply not how government works. Much of the money the Saints are getting wouldn't be there if the Saints were not there. They bring in more money that the state is giving them, so I don't see where your logic.

unfortunately, a lot of people still think that way. but not everyone.

sorry salty, i obviously dont share your "dislike".

thank you, khounba. thats how i feel.

    i could not agree more.

now for my opinion on the issue. as someone from oklahoma, that has lived in baton rouge and new orleans, and still has a home (well, kinda a home, whats left of it and being rebuilt) in new orleans, i have a soft spot for both cities.

i have never understood the animosity that people from both cities seem to have for each others locations. each has a lot to offer the state.

as far as the saints/chicken plants/education/funding debate goes.....

i think its absolutely asinine to cut education and healthcare in the state budget while funding things like a chicken processing plant. the state needs to be trying to attract high paying professional jobs that in the long run pump more dollars into state coffers. two of the things that big business look at the availability of when locating are health care and education. not the availability of cheap chicken. as far as the saints go, while i am sure that a professional sports team is a draw, it is not as high on that list of factors for drawing in business.

and how many of those chicken pluckers are gonna be able to afford saints tickets, or to eat out often and suport the local economy? bring in a business that has higher paid jobs and those things will be supported.

it kills me that the state i love is not supporting two things that make quality of living higher, or what will attract high paying jobs. i would think the people of br and nola would be better off fighting the gov/lege's budget plans, than each other.

thats not their impact. you have to subtract how much money the govt (city, parish, state) puts into it and how much of that entertainment money would be spent if they didnt exist.

I grew up in NOLA, came to LSU, and started calling BR home 4.5 years after starting LSU. I am a 3rd generation NOLA public school graduate, and a 3rd generation LSU alumnus. Having called BR home for more than 13 years now, I still consider myself originally from NOLA, and living in BR.

I think the love-hate relationship is a two-way street. There is a proverbial "great wall of china" that exists between BR and NOLA. Neither The Advocate nor the Crimes-Picayune covers the other city, its sports teams, etc very well. To read the Crimes on a Sat in the fall, you wouldn't even know that LSU was playing that day. Flip side, The Advocate doesn't cover very much of NOLA, other than the Saints.

The same type of coverage is present with the Daily Advertiser in Lafayette. They cover USL very well, with small mention of out beloved Tigers.

There are a multitude of things I like better about BR than NOLA, and there are many things that NOLA offers that BR doesn't even come close to providing. Despite the post-Katrina changes to BR, a significant dichotomy exists between the two cities, and I can't say that BR hates NOLA any more than NOLA dislikes BR.
