Does anyone know exactly WHY Skip decided to bargain shop for a Head Coach?

Cause Saban earned that money. Brought an LSU program out of the dumps to a NC. He left the program a lot better off than when he got it. It would be unfair to just give that money to a coach that didn't earn it. I hope Miles can earn it. I have no problem paying Miles that kind of money. Bring us back to a NC and they can pay him whatever he wants.

But there are few..and I mean FEW college programs--MAJOR COLLEGE programs at that--just itching to pony up 2 million and higher.

Especially in the world of college football's "what have you done for me LATELY" approach.

I dispute the entire premise here. IIRC, Skip essentially said that money was no object, but that he would adjust the salary based on the resume of the coach hired.

If he would have been able to hire Del Rio, I suspect $2 mil would have been available. Del Rio kind of tipped off he wasn't interested when he missed his appointment and left Skip waiting.

Didn't Bobby Petrino do the same thing?

The only college coach rumored to be available who could have been close to being worth $2 mil was Jeff Tedford, but he had no interest in moving east.

And guys, I lived in Ohio when TOSU won the National Championship. Jim Tressel will never leave TOSU. He essentially grew up on the campus and it always has been his dream job. If he dodges the NCAA bullet and wins a MNC this year, those folks will start to forget "Woody"--that's like AMAB fans forgetting "Tha Bear".

Miles was high on my list as well and I thought he blew it by losing the Alamo Bowl so bad. I still think he can be a good fit, if he can make the turn Mack Brown did, as mentioned by Matt Zemek in his recent article at CFN.com.

Of course, that depends on finding an O-line that can run block.
