So who do you believe is the best conference, lets say over the last 5 years? Way to stand up for the PAC 10, I bet your mamma is so proud.
A place for you to consider: www.tigerdroppings.com You'll find all the inane, pointless argument you want there. This is a place for discussion.
huh? I'm from the country. I didn't go to private school. not a good enough baseball player, I guess. I don't know what that word means.
Fire Kirk Ferentz! Heck, on second thought maybe not because I never knew there was a football team in the state of Iowa until he came along but then again they do play in the "little" Big 10. But, I'm sure he should be fired because he has NEVER won a national championship in football! WE all know how hard it is to make the national championship game in the "little" big 10!
the preseason polls are indeed a joke, but it's factual to say that if you're not in the top 15 in the preseason polls, you are basically prevented from advancing to the MNC.
I would normally agree with this but didn't bama start out of the TOP 25? I think you need a combination of winning big games and teams in front of you losing on a regular basis. The year Auburn got snubbed, the top teams just didn't trip up. But it still helps to be in the TOP 15, to be sure.
"illegitimus non carborundum" Correct grammar is: "illegitimus non carborundum est" ... Contra facta non sunt argumenta. Four years of high school Latin finally pays off thirty seven years later. Aaah... life is now complete. I think I'll have a Turbodog now.
He did a fine job pounding South Carolina in their bowl game...the fact that it was the lone win for the big ten is dissapointing though. Look, this year's SEC was a bit top heavy, and no doubt three consecutive championships speaks to the quality of the conference. I don't believe anyone has any dispute (sorry pac 10) about who the best conference has been over the last few years. What boggles my mind, is the fact that people seem to have a hard time understanding that these things change. There is no guarantee that the same will be the case next year, but I guarantee that at least 5 SEC teams will be in the preseason top 15 next year...and based on what? Past performance at the top of the conference. Seems like a bit of a contradiction to me...but if one or two big ten teams make it into the top 15 preseason, don't worry, it won't be at the expense of the SEC. In fact, we should probably just forego the seasonand everyone can watch just the SEC and crown the conference champ the national champ and be done with it. There's a reason they play the season folks...you can't take anything for granted...ever. There's a reason the offseason can be used by good coaches to get their teams ready for next year. This goes to the core issue that I have with SEC fans. I will give respect where it's due, and no doubt your conference has earned it over the last few years. But don't pretend like no one else plays football, and has no chance of beating you. that kind of pride, while perhaps a bit justified in this case, doesn't provide enough justification to assume that kind of success indefinitely. I will now make a bold prediction. At least one other conference will win a national championship in the next 5 years (Gasp). Seems bold, I know...it may even happen a couple of times. You never know, that's what makes college football so much fun to watch. The buckeyes will be very young next year, and certainly with the talent that we have coming in, and that has been waiting in the wings, I would put us in the 10-15 range. I don't know enough about other teams yet to really say, but I think Terrelle Pryor makes some progress over the offseason, and if he puts up even decent passing numbers, he will be enough to at least make us competitive. We have some speed coming in at linebacker, though i think we need it more on the DLine. The coaching staff is aware of the shortcomings exposed in the last few big games, and they have hopefully adjusted their recruiting to compensate. it's gonna be fun to watch, either way. Good luck to the Tigers in 09! Go Bucks!
Preseason polls don't make much of a difference in my opinion. Georgia was number 1 to start the year last season, Auburn was in the top 10. I think it depends on strength of schedule. Ohio State plays nobody, yet the media loves them. They're a lock for the top 10. Penn State may creep in there.
