Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma I think Flynn will be a really good replacement for Russell.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma Uhhh...because he started for USC in 2006.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma Who cares?...it's the most overrated award in college sports. It used to mean something but hasn't in years. We always hear the East Coast vs. West Coast media arguments but neither care to rank SEC talent at the top. Peyton Manning couldn't even win it!!! I just hope we win every game. If they want to give the worthless Heisman to Notre Dame and the worthless AP trophy to USC...fine. Just give us a shot at the BCS title and I'll be happy.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma So then what you said is innacurate. He was a "Bench warmer" in '05, had one good year in '06 and is on the Heisman watch list. You also said "Two years"?? He has only played one.:thumb:
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma What I said is totally accurate. You do not come off being a bench warmer and have a breakout year & expect to be considered THAT YEAR. You will have to excuse me if I was not descriptive enough and your misread my initial post. Booty was not a bench warmer last year. If he had a record breaking season in 2006, he still should not have expected to be invited since he was on the bench for most of 2005. Actually, Booty saw decent PT in 2005 behind Leinart, who had already won a Heisman. Sure it was all mop up duty, but it got him on the radar for when Leinart left.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma I am going to be happy if Flynn just does things in 6 yard spurts. He just needs to pitch the ball on Crowton's quick routes and let the receivers make plays, and when it ain't there run for 6 yards himself. If he does that, we will be fine.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma Then consider Carson Palmer. 3 VERY average years of play until Norm Chow arrived. Carson had a breakout year in 2002 but by no means did he start the season as a legit Heisman contender. He still wasn't being mentioned as late as October. I think the game he played against ND helped boost his status as much as anything. He threw for 425 and contributed to 610 yards TO, the most ever gained against the irish in each category....that'll get you media attention. Schools themselves also play a role in hyping their players. I really don't know so I'm asking, what is LSU's policy on media support for their players? Here's a piece on Carson that should help out. http://espn.go.com/ncf/columns/maisel_ivan/1476466.html
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma Don't mean to split hairs but I wouldn't say it was decent PT. He red shirted in 2004 and in 2005 he played in 10 games. He was 27 of 42 for 327....not very decent IMO. Most of those stats came in 2 or 3 games and at least 2 games, he had no PA's at all. The most telling stat about his PT is the games he DIDN'T play. Notre Dame Fresno State Texas Leinart was money (couldn't overcome VY) and the confidence was with him. Even at ASU, Leinart had a concussion and JDB took the reigns..........for ONE snap.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma We don't do it enough for football, although we've done a decent job with men's & women's basketball. If JaMarcus would've returned for his senior year we would've set up a Heisman campaign for him. Other than that (which didn't even happen), I can't remember our athletic department doing much to get our players out in the media.
Re: Does anyone else see this year as an opportunity for Matt Flynn to win the Heisma The only one for football I remember was about halfway through the season they started promoting Josh Reed for the bilitnikoff.
