Dennis Dodd one of the few people who I can honestly call dumber than Glenn Guilbeau and more acid than Paul Finebaum. I have often accused him of getting and keeping his job with CBS Sportsline by having dirty little pictures of some CBS executives with farm animals.

Hmm... Maybe ND should relocate after nine DISASTROUS bowl games.... I mean after all, "Its insanity to keep on doing the exact same thing and expect different results.".... right?

Bitter, did that intellect come natural to you or did you actually have to study to achieve it?

I cannot believe this, but I actually have to agree with Bitter here. I say this as a 27 year native of NOLA, and now an out of state resident for the past 11 years. His post, amazingly, is dead on accurate.

I wish I had seen this post before I saw Bitters...I could have used this one as an example of an accurate post, instead. :thumb:

The thing I don't understand is why La. voters continue to vote for these corrupt politicians, esp. when it signals to the rest of the nation that nothing has changed. How much of the money that should go towards rebuilding will end up getting pinched by corrupt local politicians?

For example, please explain how William Jefferson was re-elected in 2006 even though the FBI had raided his home and office and found 90 grand in the freezer? Here's a guy who shifted valuable resources in the aftermath of Katrina to recover his belongings from his home, and yet he was still re-elected.

Join the club, bitter. The problem is the voters of NOLA. By the way, I am a "Democrat", but at least I am a smart voter. Twice for Jindal.... make that thrice with the up-coming election. :)

As much as the voters in the rest of La. like to blame the NOLA voters, could a politician running for office outside NOLA still get elected for pointing out the same truths that Fishead and I have made?

Already, you have Democratic nominee Barack Obama pandering to the lowest common denominator with his promise of a 'quiet riot' among blacks that will erupt in NOLA like what we saw in Los Angeles 15 years ago. In his speech, he repeatedly refers to what happened to Los Angeles, and how there's a anger and frustration that's building up in NOLA that's similar to the anger we saw in Los Angles before it erupted into those riots. It was a missed oppurtunity where he could have used that oppurtunity to paint a picture of a relocated and rebuilt 9th Ward, safer and stronger than before.

If Rudy doesn't win the presidency, then the federal government should take over NOLA and install Rudy as a special czar in charge of NOLA. During Katrina, there was a glaring lack of leadership and all the local politicians had a deer in the headlights look about them. There's no question about Rudy's leadership, and we've seen the way he singlehandley transformed NYC. Before Rudy, NYC was on the brink of diaster where people were fleeing the city and just a general sense that the city was too big and too out of control to govern. And, look at what he did- crime plummeted, NYC became a tourist destination again, and people wanted to live in the city again.

The political demographics will have changed since "Pre-Katrina" but before, any candidate seeking Statewide office was VERY hard to beat if they carried NOLA. Should be interesting to see with the mass exodous, I have no clue as to the current numbers.

It really hurts to agree with an Irish fan on pretty much any subject.... Unfortunately NOLA isn't the only place that corrupt polititians keep getting re-elected. I know that D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was a while back, but I clearly recall his trial for smoking crack with a hooker. As soon as he was able to run for Mayor again he was re-elected. More recently Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was re-elected by a sizable margin, after being caught several times with his hand in the cookie jar. I don't know if its a case of name recognition, loyalty, or even just plain stupidity. I just know that it happens everywhere.

The really scary thing is national politics. I believe the republicans are poised to take a big fall after 8 years of W. The problem is I have no faith in the democratic front runners at this point. I don't trust Hillary, and Obama is a muslim. Islam is not a bad thing in and of itself, imho, its just that radical/fundamental islam seems to mean blowing stuff up.

Well enough of that political stuff, I believe that NOLA will come back and be a great city again. Yes, there are issues with flooding, but no where is perfect. There are a couple blizzards a yr here, thats why I have a snow shovel and a teenager:D
